I just thought I'd post an example for folks that have been asking how to get indexed by Google quickly. Here is how I just did it myself, in less than 48 hours (while working on other projects at the same time). The point is, there are no magic tricks and you can do this too.

Tuesday

3/16/2010 4:18 PM - Purchase brand new domain name

Install WordPress, install Thesis, install plugins, etc.

Register domain with Google Webmaster Tools, Yahoo & Bing.

3/16/2010 4:59 PM - Add "Privacy Policy" page.

3/16/2010 5:01 PM - Add "Terms of Use" page.

Wednesday - St. Patrick's Day!

Write first blog post, make it really good (I'm kind of a slow writer).

3/17/2010 11:47 AM - Publish first blog post

Create sitemap using Google XML-Sitemap plugin (I run this manually).

Ping post using pingler.com (I don't use WordPress for pinging).

Register blog with several RSS directories, including Technorati.

3/17/2010 3:24 PM - Confirmation email from Technorati (claim token assigned)

3/17/2010 7:25 PM - Second blog post published with Technorati claim token

3/17/2010 9:33 PM - One Schlafly Pale Ale, one Glenfiddich (neat), one Baileys Irish Cream (yummy)

Thursday

3/18/2010 7:36 AM - Confirmation email from Technorati (claim in progress)

3/18/2010 10:33 AM - Confirmation email from Technorati (claim complete)

Blog on Technorati: www.genealogyjumpstart.com site details - Technorati

Bookmark first post with handful of social bookmarking sites, pinging each one with pingler.com.

3/18/2010 4:14 PM - First blog post appears in Google SERP

Google SERP: "Vital Records for Genealogical Research" - Google Search

#1 Spot is my first post: Vital Records for Genealogical Research

Not bad, huh? Now go do it yourself. Take action!

Pat

P.S. Feel free to ask questions if you want.

Man! That's a lot of things to do just to get indexed in short time. And one more thing to get top rank for keyword phrase in quote is not something to shout out loud. But if you consider that for your own big accomplishment then I can't deny that. Small success is just a beginning for bigger succes ahead. So I guess you are in the right direction in one aspect.

From my experience to understand about seo you shouldn't do to many things at once. If you know what small little things has impact on seo the better and easier you deal with seo. And believe me people don't sell real seo secret while it is still hot and it is rarely shared in public forum.

Great stuff for getting on the SERPs, but your result is now on spot 4, and with quotes. Try to get on without quotes.

Here's my super-duper fast method for getting indexed in Google in about an hour or two:
      1. Create Awesome Google Account
      2. Setup wordpress
      3. Install Google friendly Plugins for WP
      4. Auto-submit Sitemaps to various search engines
      5. Social bookmark a link or two (especially to Digg)

That's it. Google will have crawled your site. You can even adjust the crawl rate within the google webmaster tools to get your site crawled more or less aggresively.

Now - getting it RANKED really well for my keywords....that's another story :-(

I'm not actually trying to rank for that term. So I didn't really expect to hold onto that #1 spot. Without the quotes I think there are over a million competing pages. Not something I want to try to compete against.

In fact, my strategy for this particular site will be to go after a whole lot of long-tail searches. I doubt that I will try to rank for any particular simple phrase at all. The point of the post was simply to have something of quality for Google to index. This is going to be a long-term asset that I intend to grow into an authority site.

I just keep running into questions on this forum recently from people asking how to get indexed in Google, and since it really isn't that hard I figured I'd take a minute and outline what I had just done, in the hopes that it might help some people who are struggling with this stuff.

Thanks for sharing. That really added value to this thread. (NOT!)

Come one now, this is my party, but it's supposed to be a pot luck supper. What did you bring? Share a tip or go home. :-)

Hey Craig. Great question! Not sure what it says about me but, yes, I did have the Baileys on the rocks. I never put ice in my scotch (such a man!), and I almost always do in my Baileys (such a wimp!). Yin and Yang. I'm a complex guy, what can I say. :-)

Although I am a complete newbie and have only 5 sites to my name I will share how i got indexed in less than 2 hours.

The first 4 sites took about a week. But the last one went sth like -> bought a domain -> linked it to hosting -> added 7 or 8 pages of unique content on it with youtube videos on each page( related to the topic )-> the site went live.

Everything else I did was to post the link to identi.ca , digg.com and folkd.com and that was it. Oh and i pinged it using pingler.com

That was it. I was amazed. Have now started making article backlinks and am climbing steadily.

I am not saying this is the super duper way to go, but it worked for me.

Digg seems to be the magic ticket at the moment. Who knows what it will be six months from now? The only real secret is this - Google won't care about your site until you get its attention somehow.

One way to get Google's attention is through a bookmark/link at Digg (or whatever is the hot social bookmarking, web 2.0, twitterish, sharing site du jour). And pinging that link doesn't hurt.
