Guys,
As of right now, I do not think I want to break into the offline marketing scene, but was talking with a friend of mine about online marketing and the cool people I have met on this forum. So anyway it turns out his wife wants to start a business, and would like a webpage and SEO type stuff done. I was wondering if someone could help me out as far as doing "local" SEO type work. If there is a WSO, id be interesting in buying, but I am mainly looking at how one would get a local business listed in google, google maps, and so forth. Sort of a what would you do? Keep in mind this is being done for free, but if a little bit of money is needed, I am sure they would pony up. Thank you for any help!

    Allen,

There are several threads here talking about the basics of SEO for locals.

The long tail keywords that identify the location and the type of business is the root of on site SEO. Link building is the same for online as it is for offline, although generally local is less competitive. There are exceptions for major citys.

You can get lots of insight by heading over to Adsense / PPC / SEO Discussion Forum

    Hi Alan,
There have been many discussions in the WF about Google Local Business Center....how to set it up...how to optimize it properly, etc...just do a search & i'm sure everything you will need to know will be there...

Go here for more info & to signup:
    https://www.google.com/accounts/Serv...hl=en-GB&gl=GB

There is a lot more to local seo than Google Local Business Center....there is Bing local, yahoo local......gaining citations through local & national directory sites such as merchantcircle.com, yelp.com, local.com, etc...proper use of long tail keywords... & more...

It's not as hard as one would think to set it up properly....but it must be done correctly to have full effect.....there are ways to optimize google local to maximize your search results...many local businesses just fill in the basics & think it's going to work wonders for their business...thats not so...

Anyways, just do a simple search here on the WF or....google search "optimizing google local"....

    Good luck,
    ~ken
