No. Of words On An Adsense Webpage

Hi.
I am just wondering if there is such a thing as the optimum number of words for an article on an adsense webpage?
Just looking at a competitor, he or she seem to have all the information layed out on one page. In a similar way to wikipedia, which has like a 2000 word essay on a subject.
I am first on the second page while s/he is first on the first page with similar domain names. The only difference is the length of the essay for the target page.
I thinking instead of writing a 500 word X 4 essay on 4 different pages for a particular keyword, is it advisable to just place it all on one page? That way broad search will become more relevant as it has more keywords I am assuming and more relevant for 'exact search'.
