High PR blogs vs Article directories

Hi all,
I am wondering whats your view of posting articles on high PR blogs in comparison to adding them to articles directories.
The way I look at it ; all of them have high PR in general but the PR of your specific article ( if it is on ezine or on blogger ) has a very low pr. But leaving PR aside.
If I constantly update my blog it is still remaining fresh and new stuff is being added whilst article directories do not bundle my articles together, so lets say I post 3 reviews of products X Y and Z on ezine. They would all be seperate articles and when submiting Y google would not go and check for X if there is anything new. On the other hand if I am writing a blog and have these 3 reviews google will check for updates etc each time and see that the backlinks from product X have new content etc. ( beeing on the same page and all ).
So what are the main differences?
