Oftentimes your 136k competitors have little or no intent to be indexed for a particular keyword or phrase, particularly one with a "local" context. If you build a page that is designed for a partcular phrase, get a couple of quick backlinks with 3 or 4 PR (not hard to do at all), I've seen it happen in as little as a day. If you can create a video and post it on youtube and do the same thing (get some moderate PR backlinks pointing to the vid) it could happen even faster.

Yes, like Glenellis shared, it really depends on your competition.

136k can be easy, it can be tough. I've found that certain markets are more difficult than others. For example, many big companies have local keywords ranked in the real estate niche, and therefore just getting a few links won't get you anywhere.

The best thing is to take a look at the competition, and see what their google pagerank is. This isn't a complete glimpse, but gives you a good way to gauge things quickly.

Agree it depends on what the pages are that are ranking in the top 10. What type of pages are they, how well are they optimized, and how many backlinks do they have.

If there are no videos listed in the top 10 I would do that first. Make a short video Ad, write a good title and description and upload it through Tube Mogul or Traffic Geyser. Embed the videos from these websites into Blog Post. Ping all the video pages and blog post and bookmark them in various Social Bookmarking websites. You could very well see the videos appear in the top 10 in a matter of hours.

If the top 10 is mostly yellow page directories the listings is wide open. Yellow Page Directories are filler when Google has nothing better to list. In addition to the videos; Make some more Blog posts; Create some pages on Squidoo, Hub Pages and Wet Paint; Write an article and submit it, etc. Be sure to Ping all the pages you make and bookmark them in various Social Bookmarking websites.

On all the pages you make include some good anchor text links to other pages you made (promote the promoters) as well as your main website. These will take longer than the videos to appear in the top 10, but you might start to see them in a week or so if the competition is weak.

In all the descriptions for all the pages you create remember to include a call to action to visit the store and include the store's address and phone number. Remember the goal of Local Search marketing is to get 'Feet Through the Door' not just 'Click to Website'. Brick-N-Mortar Retail Store Owners don't care how many people go to their website. All they care about is how many customers walk into their store.

IF you build links properly and have more than 10 backlinks with great PR then it will take 15 days or more to get on 1st page. but you need to build more and more links per week in order to maintain your 1st place otherwise the competetors will push you back
