Do google rankings count backlinks in a blog comment, guestbook, or in a signature of a forum as well? Or what about facebook pages or other social media?

Thanks.

  • Nobody knows what Google counts and doesn't count, but my experience has shown that links from relevant blogs and forums seem to help.

It probably doesn't hurt unless you get involved in some kind of big auto creation of links. Things like profile spamming could be risky (though I'm not sure that is proven). Probably what is even better is being involved in forums where the links would be interesting to the users reading the forum.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

If the site use no-follow, Google won't pass pagerank to the links on the site.

I do believe that the big advantage of sig's and blog comments is that although they don't necessarily pass on a ton of link juice, they can help with both SEO and traffic simultaneously which is incredibly valuable. Of course, I'm not getting any traffic to my wine site from this board, but I do from wine related forums.

Yes.... A link is a link. Where ever its at, Whether it has an anchor text or not. Just really matters it its on a NOFOLLOW or DOFOLLOW website, blog, forum, social media network and so on.

NOFOLLOW - is exaclty what it means... Google will find it and count it, but won't come back to it and follow it again.

DOFOLLOW - is exactly what it means... Google will find it and count it, and keep counting it and keep following it.

Build your links anywhere and everywhere (related to your niche) you can. Just don't spam...

A small thing I would add to this is that you should be careful of what kind of "Links" are linking to. From all my research, a link should have some sort of "theme" relevance to your page/product. For example if you put a comment on a Youtube video for the sake of a link and your're selling auto accessories, to put a comment on "talking dogs" isn't going to help at all. One last thing, I have found that you can also get some links you don't want, so IMO you should not submit links to "anything" because it can lead to places that could "cost you".

I know forum links are not the strongest but yes agreed a link is a link. In fact it's forum links that help me get my new sites indexed and they get the first backlinks so I kinda like them too.
