Google, 404 errors and sociable plugin

Ok...my site had been ranking really well for a long while and suddenly it just sort of dropped off into never-never land in search result. I assumed at first that it was just the google dance but I wanted to make sure that everything was fat and happy with my site just in case.

I found in my logs and also in google webmaster tools that my site was throwing a whole bunch of 404 errors relating to a sociable plugin that I had installed on my blogs. So I went and uninstalled the plugin but google is still looking for the stupid little pictures for the plugin and as of yesterday google showed about 250 404 errors for my site. I have tried resaving the posts that are listed as throwing 404 errors....

Will this take care of the issue? Should I just give it time and let google figure out that this plugin isn't installed any longer? Should I resave ALL my posts?

Also....I have basically two wordpress installations on each site. One is in the root directory and the second is called "blog". As far as my sitemap.xml file (I use a plugin for this on each blog) should they both be pointing to the same xml file or will they overwrite each other each time I update the respective blogs?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
