Hello. I am a newbie and i am about to enter the world of PPC advertising. Though i have one question. Do the display URL and destination URL have to be the same? I read somewhere that it doesn't as long as the display URL leads where the destination URL shows... But how can this happen without the two links not be the same? ALso, i get that google shows only one add with a particular display URL. If other adds appear with the same they are not shown. Is there a way to check if a particular display URL is already "taken" in adwords? Please answer because i want to start but i cant. Thanks a lot!

All your questions are answered by the Adwords guidelines and policies.

Only one ad will be shown at one time for one domain. No way to check if it's already "taken" as you put it. You could do a search on the keywords you plan to use and see if there are ads shown for it but that's no guarantee. Advertisers may not be advertising at that moment or in your region. Doesn't matter, you still want to outrank and beat them and any newcomers with high quality ads. If you produce low quality stuff, you'll get nowhere, competition or not.
