You are probably getting backlinks every day delivered to you without realizing it

I just had to laugh at myself. I've been grumbling about having to clear my blog comments (moderated). they fill up so quick especially from people who drop foreign language links and nonsense comments.

Then it occured to me I was deleting all these comments without seeing the silver lining - the backlinks being left. I started backlink checking and lo and behold found many of the sites these people use to leave backlinks that aren't comment spam sites. Quite a few I didn't come across before.

Delivered to me every day under my nose.

A fresh new way to make lemonade out of lemons. I can now look forward to clearing out my moderating que and racking up new backlink sites easily. Bet you can too if you have a blog.

So you are looking at their back links to see which blogs accpeted the comments, and then adding your own comments?

    Thats a cool tip

Yep. But not blog comments per se. Any kind of backlink that can be left. Some of the people using these spam bot tools leave ton loads of links all over the internet in various spots. Its still time consuming to analyze which ones are any good but hey these are link suggestions sitting right in your blog waiting for you to analyze.

Aha - what a cracking idea, indeed! This is one of those opportunities that sits under peoples noses without being noticed and when you finally spot it you kinda feel silly for having left it so long! A real "d'oh" moment.

        Thanks for the tip.

      nice observation.

Taking something from link building 101 where you analyze the competitions back links.

Instead of the competition, you are analyzing the spammers links!

      good stuff.

  • I would check to see which comment links are followed and not waste a bunch of time commenting on sites where the comment links are nofollow unless it's only to get traffic (in which case you want to make sure the site/post you're commenting on is relevant to your site/post).

Encountered scenarios where I'd spend ages looking at the blog to make a valuable contribution. Only to return later to see that the comment (which has taken 10 minutes+ to think and write) has been replaced by the owner with a link to their site. And the site it is pointing to is a new one they've created based on my site!

Come across a few of these where pretty much all the comments point to their own sites but an appearence of ownership by different people. Felt it was there to dupe, cheat and entrap people.

It can be a pretty nasty world out there!

What a inappropriate doing of others. It is really frustrating to know that after you have inserted efforts and time doing those comments blog owners will just change the link that has no value for you.
