Off Niche links still works??

Dear Warriors,

One of my friend told me that, Getting backlinks from irrelevant niche for a website helps to improve SERP on Google. However, it requires some more hard work compare to getting backlinks from relevant niche sites. Is that true? What do you guys say? I am confused....

For me, I always stick more with relevant backlinks rather than irrelevant backlinks.

    yes links from irrelevant sites can improve serps. In my experience it requires less hard work.

    It's entirely possible that unrelated backlinks have slightly less effect than related ones but if they do then I've not seen it or it's so small you can't tell.
