Check out these adsense blocks, you will hardly notice 'em at all!
I guess that's always the point?

Very nicely done imho

(my God WikiHow has some strange linking! It took me three attempts to get the actual article!)

    You forgot one point.

Neither you nor I can do ads like that.

True enough. When you are Ezine articles, or Wikihow - Google tends to dance to whatever tune you play.

I'm sure Google would love to be able to provide totally customizable ads for every legit Adsense publisher, since more clicks generally translates into more money for them.

Unfortunately with heavy customization options too many people would abuse their system and utilize all sorts of blending and placement techniques to try to trick people into clicking.

So they'd need a bucket load more personnel constantly checking all sites for compliance with their policies.

So I guess really it makes sense that they'd only consider increased levels of customization for individuals or companies with sites of certain sizes / traffic level.

Out of curiosity, is anyone here aware of just what traffic levels are required in order to become an Adsense premium publisher?

Doesn't Google not want their publishers to intentionally hide the ads in the content. I thought that was against TOS.

Like previous poster said, if you are big enough, they will make an exception.

I do not believe normal adsense can do this. But I believe it is part
of the adsense for rss feeds. A normal person cannot add an rss
feed like this one to their site.

But again, it might not be. It looks like special adsense only for
big, name brand sites who bring in a lot of visitors and money.
Look at the ads closely. They are not normal looking adsense.

aren't they just messing with the colors to get the ads matching the page better?

I don't see what the big deal is.

    It does look very nice.

You cannot get a google ad to look like that using colors.
Obviously, you are not looking at the ads.
The ads are short and wide, nearly the 728 kind.
The "google ad" is above the ad.
The title is to the side of the text.

You cannot, repeat, cannot get that by tweaking "colors."

Is is part of the google syndication, which for most of us means
adsense in our rss feeds. Other big sites can use javascripts to
plug it in. That's what this site is doing.

You, my friend, CANNOT possible get a 728 wide ad, with 3 vertical ads.

Show me your site that has ads like that.
        Case closed.

            View the source code.

They are not using normal channels or code.

I don't believe the average person can do that.

But, like I said, if anyone says they can, show me!

I could've sworn it was a color play and anyone can do it verses an rss feed of ads that not everyone can do......but I could be wrong...hahah.

Refreshed the page about 3 times to find the ads...

It seems just a perfect match of colors and fonts.
I don't have any high traffic site to test it though.

I managed to pick them out straight away - good use of colour. I'm not sure that these are 'special ads' though as they still say ads by google. About.com do have special ads and theirs have Sponsored Links as a header and no ref to ads by google:
