Get more links, page 15 is far from where ya need to be, but its a start. Good job! It also depends on how the competition is as well.

It seems to me that SEO is a never ending job. You constantly need to optimise your site on page and off page just to keep up with your competitors and Google guidelines and once you get to the fist page then you need to work even harder just to stay there. Just keep doing what you where doing.

Really hard to guesstimate without knowing how long you've been at it so far, how competitive the niche is, and not being able to predict the Google dance with any more accuracy than your average weatherman's forecast. Just keep up the good work building backlinks and working on your other pages and sites, and it at least seem to happen faster!

That is a really good question but it is a matter of getting those links. I had one domain that I got to the top of the list in 3 weeks but I was doing something ever day to keep it moving. I am at present trying to get my blog using my name to the top and this is really tough. I have got it to page two in a month so shall just have to keep working on it.

its an on-going process, if you spend an hour to two hours a day on one keyword you should be fine, but you have to keep on doing it. If you stop even for a day or two, chances are you'll see the effects of that.

Hi Good question SEO goes in cycles. Links are built, then they are crawled by SE's and indexed. But when the Search Engine crawls and indexes content it doesn't necessarily reoganize its index and find your new rank. With Google, the search engine will update its entire index about every four months. And since Google has well over half the market share we'll just focus on that one Search Engine for this post.
Let's suppose that we started a campaign in January, and Google just updated its index. You would be starting at square one. The exceptions being things like the age of the domain, age of existing links, strength and relevance of those existing links, and whether the links were anchor text or simply URL's.
If your hypothetical website called widgetworldusa dot com only had links pointing at it with the URL, it's link profile needs work. But if you widget site had anchor text linking to it for phrases you're pursuing, like "industrial strength widgets", then you're off to a good start.
Now about 3 months later you've built more "industrial strength widgets" links, but not all of them were crawled and included in the index yet. So on the first update you can hope for 25-50% of your links to have been picked up. These will go into consideration on the next update that's another 3 months away.
Now it's 6 months later and you're still hard at work on link building. This is the second Google update, with probably half or more of those links in the first update now included. But between update one and two you can again hope for 25-50% of your links to have been picked up.
Factors that generally play into how long does seo take can include the age of your domain, the relevance, the age of the link, the age of the link the domain is on, the age of the domain that the link is on, the authority of the domain your link is on, and much more.
Hopefully this provides a little insight about why SEO takes so long, and why many people offering SEO services usually require a commitment of 6 to 12 months to start a project.
For those wanting instantaneous results, Search Marketing and PPC is probably more suitable. But you should note that it accounts for less than 20% of the clickthroughs for search engine results pages (SERPs) and that the natural listings and SEO boast 80% of the clicks.
The best strategy is a mix of both, with Search Marketing to get you started until your SEO campaign catches up. It's also worth noting that your cost per customer and SEO ROI will decrease as time goes on. Because SEO provides a long term strategy for increased consumer presence, it has added value as compared to paid search marketing.

EO is never finished, just like marketing and public relations are never finished. This is the first thing I want my clients to grasp -- SEO is a long-term strategy that needs to be a permanent part of how you operate online. It's my duty to inform you that there's no such thing as "SEO in a hurry." If you're in a situation where your success depends on immediate search engine visibility, you've already failed by putting yourself into that situation to begin with. If you need search engine visibility in a hurry, you should be looking at pay-per-click, not SEO.

It's also difficult to say how long SEO takes because every scenario is different. I've worked on older websites that only needed minor adjustments to get onto Page 1 of Google. On the other hand, I've worked brand new websites in competitive markets that won't see Page 1 results for six months, 12 months, or a couple years.
That's why I tell people not to rely too heavily on search engine placement, and to use many other marketing channels both online and off.

If you asking how long it takes to rise to #1 then it depends on how many backlinks the #1 spot in Google currently has as well as the quality of those links...

The big unknown question is how long it takes Google to react to those links....Google is really slow at repsonding to things....

Also keep in mind that getting to the #1 spot and keeping it two very different things as well....as people link to your competition they will be constantly getting a better footing in the rankings as well so keep up with them along the way....i like to get a triple amount of backlinks compared to the #1 spot in Google for a more auto pilot method.....

This is exactly what I was going to post. And without a lot more information its probably the most accurate answer you can get.

But if you really want an exact answer 27 days 13 hours 42 minutes and 14 seconds

It all depends on how competetive the other page one rankings are.

I've had keywords which I started working on an year back and they haven't made it yet. :p
Ofcourse i was a newbie back then... didn't do my research. But now, with the right keywords, i've been able to get my websites up to the first page well within a month or so...

It depends on the keyword competition, but if you are on page 15 with moderate link building it's a good bet you will be able to reach page 1 quite easily.

Hard is when you optimize a site and you are still on position 1000. (Think diet and IM niches.) Even then, it's easy, you just have to invest in SEO.

Just focus on solid high PR, high authority websites. Variate your anchor texts. Put a couple of "domain name" anchor texts here and there. Dont send all your backlinks to a single anchor text. Make it look normal.

    Good luck!

    Andrew

It depends on the amount of time you spend, the strategy you apply. Sometimes you may not rank for easier keywords even working for 6 months because of incorrect strategy selection and sometimes even 1 month is more than enough. I have a friend of mine who ranked for a keyword having 70 million competition within 1 month on #11 position of google.

SEO is not a "one time" deal its an ongoing process. Increase links over time. There are too many factors that play a role to tell you how long it will be before you see results. The age of the domain can be a factor, as well as the popularity of the niche you are targeting.

Your on page 15, so jumping to the first 5 pages should be quite simple, just carry on building some backlinks, it's impossible to give a exact time frame, my personal advice is for you to carry on building backlinks, depending on what your website is about, perhaps add some more content, start doing some deep linking and ranking for long tail keywords, that'll bring in some nice traffic from other keywords, while still improving your ranking on your primary keyword.

    Good luck.

When starting out, focus on only a few keywords and you'll get more links per each keyword. This concept of "link equity" should lead to better rankings--faster.

Of all the responses to this thread I like this one the best.
It really sums it up for me. Asking "how long does SEO take?" is like that other question "How long is a ball of string?"

Personally, I like to stick to a process for applying SEO so that it becomes a habit and then let the SEO juices flow as a natural process.

Part of that process for me is to use WordPress combined with several specific SEO plugins and then set up the proper permalink structure (I think %/postname/% is the best as it allows you to maximise the effect of "all-in- title" keywords). I set up header titles and secondary titles plus post excerpts all using keywords within them and then use keywords in tags also as this really helps to draw attention.

Of course there are other methods and process to follow and hence it does come back to what jazbo was saying in that "it takes forever"... because it sure never stops!

      Cheers
      Russ

SEO is a continual process in my opinion. You should always be tending to it and building links etc. If you don't someone is going to work their way ahead of you!

Just keep up the slow and steady pace and be patient. If you do this, you should inch your way up higher in the SERPS

    Good luck

It depend on the keywords you are targeting. It takes several weeks to get a few back-links and maybe several month to go to page 1 of google search results.
Then, it needs forever work to remain in page 1.

Q: "How long does SEO take?"

A: Forever. SEO is a never ending process. You will spend alot more time on it in the beginning getting your site initially ranked. Then, it is something you will be working on for as long as you own that website.

    Learn to love the process!

    Good Luck,
