What makes a pagerank what it is? I just received a pagerank of 1 for my site, which is all unique content and of what I though pretty good quality.

My site: | Force Factor Reviews

Also, will this drop my rankings because it became a pr 1?

Another thing is that my competitors have a pr of 0, so will this help that I have a pr of 1?

In general, the higher PR you have, the easier you can rank for a keyword.

The term - easier means you need less backlinks to rank for any designated keyword.

To rank for any keyword, PR is just one of the factor, many low PR site would out rank you anytime with more backlinks.

And the quality of your backlinks is extremely important. There are few factors about the link quality, may be I leave it for other warriors to explain more...

while page rank is a good indicator - keep building backlinks with the appropriate keyword as anchor text to your site. I have seen sites with PR-0 outrank sites with PR-1. So don't worry too much about PR.

While quality content is important, backlinks are more important.

My site just went up to PR 4 recently, and I noticed I'm ranking higher this week for a particular keyword phrase. So, PR does factor into rankings.

My page rank just recently jumped from 0 to 2 suddenly.

I suppose that is the result of posting few articles manually on 4 big art. directories and some other backiling excercise I have recently spent time on.

PageRank may help with your rankings, but PageRank and good rankings do not go hand-in-hand.

If you care to look, you can find pages with low PageRank outranking sites with higher PageRank.

The Green PageRank on Google's toolbar is only a snapshot of Google PR, which is only updated 3-4 times a year.

The real link popularity of a web page could vary widely from day to day - as some linking pages go away or lose value at their end, or vice versa, they pick up value.

PageRank in and of itself is simply one measure that contributes to your ability to get ranked in Google, but it is only ONE measure in a large number of measurements.

PR is important to ranking, but so are a lot of other things...banklinks, amount of content, etc.
