I have article submission directory that had over 15.000 Google listed pages. When I checked couple days ago it has dropped to 400. Is Google de-listing the pages or just fetching results from different databases?
Has this happened to anyone else?

Hey mate, check google webmasters tools to make sure that your site hasn't suddenly been declared 'not verified'.

It happened to mine about 2 months ago. Every day for about a week after resubmitting it, i kept getting 'not verified' and then one day randomly it just said verified.

      Thanks Joseph,
Just checked ad it is still verified. I am just confused with Google sometimes.
      Thanks for your suggestion.

Nothing to worry about, they are just doing some changes in their algorithm so check again after a couple of weeks

Even some of my sites are not ranking anymore due to Google's new changes but all its good no need to worry

      Thanks mate,
This makes sense, I have done some research and many Wordpress owners are saying that the same is happening to their blogs.

It is not uncommon for the pages in webmaster tools to increase and decrease. Unless it persists I would not worry about it.

What software are you using to run your article directory? I came across several at the weekend that had all been hacked; very clear messages were left on the sites to say so.

If you using the article dashboard type software you might want to check this.

Eight bytes walk into a bar. The bartender asks, “Can I get you anything?”
“Yeah,” reply the bytes. “Make us a double.”

      Hi Luke,
I had the website hacked twice but I fixed it each time. Do you think this will make google de-list pages?

Im not entirely sure to be honest; I fixed a clients website before where they had pages being deindexed similar to you because they had been hacked and malware was on all of the pages - this was definatly the reason - its hardly surprising google does this either.....

I know that they were getting reindexed but im not sure if the owner had to jump through any hoops in order to do this.

Assuming this is the reason why, then you might have to contact google as someone mentioned above.

Thanks Luke, by the way how did you detect the Malware, I have reinstalled all templates so I hope there is no malware.

The number of pages indexed in Google using the site: comment can be quite inconsistent. If you notice a drop in the number of indexed pages, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Google sometimes serves results from a different data center or they could be refreshing the index and duplicating it across all data centers. If you are worried about some of your pages getting de-indexed, whack the URL in google and if it returns results, you are fine.

Some of my websites have ranked well... and then suddenly disappeared from the SERPS for a couple of days... only to jump in rank after they re-appeared.

So there may be some algorithm tweaking going on in the background. This is nothing to worry about as it will happen from time to time.

Your sites are just doing the Google Dance...it's normal...i had a site listed on the #3 spot for it's keywords and then it completly dissappeared for a few weeks from the SERPS....it was still indexed however as I checked it by googling site:mysite(dot)com. Two weeks later it bounced back to the #2 spot in Google. Just give it a few weeks and it will or should be back in the SERPS..While my site out TKO'd I went out and build another site to relieve the impatienceness.

      Best of Luck!!!
