Hey guys, got a strange question here:

I have a site that's #1 on Bing for a keyword that gets ~250 visitors per day, and it's great. BUT, I have no idea why my site which is about 16 on Google for the same term is #1 on Bing.

Are there specific links that Bing likes more than Google? Or specific onsite optimization?

Thanks for the help

Yahoo and Bing are about quantity, were as Google is all about quality. Basically, massive amounts of backlinks will help your Yahoo and Bing rankings, but may not have as much of an effect on your Google rankings. Personally, I've found that building tons of web 2.0 sites with relevent content, blasting them with 100s of links and then linking them back to your site, is the most effective strategy for ranking in Google.

For competitive keywords your site will need a good amount of content that's closely related to the keyword your trying to rank for. Google want's to display authority sites at the top of search results, so by adding closely related content your showing Google that you have alot to say about a specific subject. Which will make you an authority, but don't forget about quality backlinks.

I agree, Bing and Yahoo is a lot easier to rank, as long as you have massive profile links, they seems to rank on page 1, where as Google implement a lot of filters, and only certain links that meet the criteria will be count as backlinks.

I keep meaning to watch this seminar on MarketingProfs. I have the Pro membership so I get access for free, but haven't gotten to it yet. The slides, which are downloadable, seem to be mostly basic SEO info, so they might highlight the differences more in the talk.

Bing Isn't Google: The Differences That Matter for Search Marketing - MarketingProfs Online Seminars and Webinars

Marketing Profs is more geared for brick and mortar businesses doing online marketing and less for "internet marketers" but since that's my primary interest I've really enjoyed my Pro membership and recommend it.

They have an affiliate program through LinkShare, but, the above link, is not an affiliate link, of course.
