Hey,

I am building some content sites with wordpress. I am a little worried though because I've read lately that wordpress sites aren't the best for rankings. What is your experience with getting wordpress sites ranked? Is it as bad as everyone says or is this more of a rumor? Thanks

I have to admit to only ever having used one once on an old site and I didn't really understand all the Plug-Ins and Pinging.

I'm looking into it again, any resources you suggest and which Plug-Ins do I need, there are so many?

    Regards

Wordpress is absolutely the best for ranking in search engines! It also gives you many many options as far as plugins to help you drive traffic to your site. Whoever told you that it wasn't good doesn't have the first clue!

Actually read this on a blog that John Reese sent a link to. It was the Nathan Anderson blog about seo. Anyway, I read a couple of comments on their saying wordpress isn't good. I am glad I came here to find the truth. Thanks

Wordpress is the best even for search engines ranking!
When i type some keywords, i find the first page of Google almost only with Wordpress blogs so don't say Wordpress is not good for search engines! xD

That just means it's popular not that it's the best. If no-one in a niche who understand seo is using anything else - you won't see them.

Look at BBC or CNN - do you think they use Wordpress to get ranked>?

WordPress is a gift when it comes to getting ranked in the search engines, ease and simplicity.

There are many more but be sure to get these two plug-ins: all-in-one SEO pack and the Google XML Sitemaps.

The easiest way to find plugins is to login to your WordPress account and click on the "plugins" tab. Then select "add new" from the options below. Now just put in a search term for the type of plugin that you are looking for and a list will come up. Click on "install" and change the settings to what you want and you're done.

    WordPress is great!

I run only wordpress and I haven't had any problems with ranking.

For plugins I'd select All-in-one SEO first and build from there after you see what you need. There are a lot of plugins to do a lot of things.

Google XML sitemaps will generate a sitemap for you.

Efficient related posts will do cross linking within your site.

Easy Privacy Policy will generate a privacy policy page for you.

You can also find plugins to handle site compression, RSS footers, favicons and virtually anything else you want.

With plugins, Wordpress is versatile and flexible.

You can Google for Jeff Johnson's Wordpress SEO Installer, it used to be a plugin, now they integrate it into a wordpress installer.

      kok,

i just see your post and looking around for this. on his site the only thing i could find mentioned is the plug in. i found a 2 year old post that said "Free SEO Blog Software is no longer available" and to use the plugin instead

but you say as if this is something newer than the plugin, am i missing something or is i backwards?

first consider things that make up good on page seo

keyword density, kw in url, title tag, heading tags, use of font and b, kw relevance and early prominance, tree like structer, good internlinking to relevent content, interlinking done with good anchor text, easy to navigate (ex : like navigation not in footer), using text where possible and not graphics in it's place, sitemap, limited outbound links, clean valid code, etc..

also consider that the serps love fresh and regularly updated content. so bein able to update and add content with easy is a huge plus.

then think if ther was a way to automatically do cool things like create an RSS feed for you, ping your site after new content was added, maybe intergrate with other outside sites like twitter or feedburner, etc...

and what if you could build something like this and make it 'skinable' so that any one could customize the look and feel exactly how they wanted to

good thing Wordpress is around becuase coding something like from scratch would be a pain the ass

So far, WordPress still the best Content Management System for SEO with a lot of SEO plugin. For additional, you also can custom your permalink, meta-tag, description and keyword that make your site more search-engine friendly

I tested this and Wordpress has no magic. If you don't know SEO it has some plugins that will get you further but you won't rank a site over another just because you are running wordpress.

The benefits of wordpress are in the plugins - not just the SEO ones either

Wordpress might not be "Point and Shoot", or "Plug N Play"... it requires the use of more advanced features to be SEO-ready... but once you have those tools you're good to go!

I'm not a fan of automated software, which is why my confidence is pretty high against competitors who use such.

What you mean to say is that you want to see some fireworks and get some popcorn to go with it.

Don't worry there are some meaty posts coming and they do have to do with wordpress. Testing wordpress 3.0 with a new twist on an old strategy and its very interesting.
