How Can This Site Possibly be a PR2?

I have a site that went from a PR2 to a PR0 in one of Google's recent PageRank changes.

That site is updated regularly, has tons of content and gets incoming links from decently-ranked sites, but, whatever.

Okay, so that site is a PR0.

I have another site. It has 2 or 3 pages that are not password-protected. It runs on an old, slow web server. Half the time (literally) the site is not even up because the web server has crashed and needs to be manually reset. There is no real content on the site, no keywords, nothing of particular interest to attract the search engines. Yet, it is a PR2.

Boggles the mind.

Not that I particularly mind. One day, I'll move that site to a more stable web server and if it's got PageRank to get started, that's fine by me. But, it's just weird that it's getting a PR2.

Maybe google is realising that people manipulate SEO so much that they have stealth changed and looking for sites which are more normal... I personally got no idea just a theory.

The ranking system seems completely senseless! I have a site that went to PR3 the first year when it was pretty thin and crappy. The next year I really developed it with tons of good original content and baclinks. So what happened? It dropped to PR2 for more than 2 years!

It just recently regained PR3 but I don't really care any more because there's no sense to it.

Well, PR0 and PR2 are both pretty low. It's not like you can base a theory on those two examples. It's really easy to get a site to PR2.
Who cares anyway. It's about Google rankings, not the Pagerank.

you know if i would have posted this question in the Main Internet Marketing Discussion Forum it would have been moved, complained about, i would have been called a noob, etc...

    just sayin...

but to answer your question, many people noticed a lot of off the wall page rank changes this time around. my guess is that it has something to do with the roll out of caffine and Google trying to emphasize the need for people to stop giving PR so much weight.

The only backlinks are from a couple of my own sites. The sites with the backlinks are PR3.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

What about the actual pages that the links are on? Are they PR3? Are there any other outgoing links on those pages?

Is the content on your PR0 site password-protected?

I had a PR 2 that went to a 0 and back to a 2 in the last few months. It is loaded with content.

I have another site that was a 0 and it went up to a 2. This other site is a blog with only one or two posts - nothing to write home about as I am still working on what I'm going to do on it.

There is no rhyme or reason.

I occasionally look at PR - but over all it is not important to me. Traffic and conversions are what will make me money - not PR.

i think that your link partners have removed your website... so they are not linking you till now.. when the PR updated.. your site gone to 2 to 0.. or maybe you tried to use some of blackhats tricks..

Dan, Some of my sites go from PR-0 to PR-4. I think every now and then someone at G
plays with a Yo-Yo that has an optical sensor on it.

If the only back links you have to the site are from your own then maybe you should check them to make sure one of them didn't get sand boxed or d-indexed.

    Have a Great Day!
    Michael
