Pinging Blogs for BL

I have been leaving backlinks on some blogs recently, in order for them to be indexed, is it sufficient to just pop the blog URL into pingomatic? Or are there more steps to have it properly indexed?

    If you are posting comments on blogs that are on pages that are not being crawled... pinging isn't going to matter. It's a waste of time.

    And if you care at all about what Matt Cutts says... any blog comment that is nofollowed will not pass page rank. So you had better find blogs where you comments are read by your targeted audience.

      I thought the purpose of "pinging" a site/page was to make the spiders come and crawl to see what is there?

      So if the page is inactive and you leave a comment, pinging it will help attract some attention.

      That was my take on it.

        In theory it sounds good, but you can't force google to do a
        anything.

        Pinging like that is not what pinging in this situation was intended.

        If the blog is indexed and is crawled on a regular basis, it will
        be counted by google, if and only if they want to count it.

        IMHO, I don't think google values blog comments anymore.
        99% are spam, whether you pretend it's not.

        Too many people spam them. In fact, look at the threads in this
        forum. Many, many people posting and asking for blogs to post to.
        It only feeds the google devaluing.
