Google places much weight on the 1st 100 words, right?

I've read that google places much weight on determining uniqueness to the first 100 words of a post. Perhaps, even, the bots don't "read" much more than first 100 words.

How many of you believe this to be true?

So.... If it IS true... then if I put the same banner at the top of all my posts... I'm really shooting myself in the foot because Google will think I have duplicate content on my site. Am I thinking this through correctly? I'm not referring to a banner in the header area, but IN the post itself.

This is not correct based on what I've observed. It is quite possible to rank for long tail terms found in comments following a 1000 word blog post.

Also, don't get too hung up on the duplicate content thing. Search for old posts to discover the fact and fiction on this topic.

  That is true - somewhat. I know that you should put KWs closer to the beginning. Who knows what the google algo really wants to see...

Word order can matter in the sites title and description but I think it matters less when you are dealing with body content.
