On page SEO for a wordpress category?

Hey,
I'm trying to rank some of my wordpress category pages for certain keywords. I'm using a plugin which removes the category part from the permalink and another which gives me meta descriptions for my category page. When i run my page through an on page SEO checking program it tells me i am missing H1 tags, Bolded text and a few other things. Has anyone got any advice on ON page SEO for wordpress category's?
