I like to write a lot of stuff about different things (mostly personal experiences). That's start with that.

I heard that Wordpress is a great tool to use. For me - I only optimize websites, but somebody told me yesterday that they are more powerful than websites that you put up.

If that is the case - I would love to write about different things (mostly informational) and splash some adsense on it. Then concentrate on Long Tailed KWs.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is - traditional websites better to optimize and easier to rank high or is WordPress better?

I don't think there is any difference at all between how wordpress sites rank compared to sites you create yourself. It all depends on how you Market the site as to how well it will ultimately rank.

I created a web site, and also a Wordpress.com blog on the same topic. Both sites had just about the same information. Both sites were indexed by Google. I did not do any external SEO to either site. I posted fresh content to both sites every one to three weeks. Over the course of a year, the Wordpress.com blog got 2,347 visitors. The website did not get any visitors. So Wordpress.com seems to be doing something that is attracting search engine attention.

However, if you have your own Wordpress powered site, you do need to get traffic.

The other thing that I like about Wordpress is that it is easier to post content, and there are lots of free as well as paid plugins to do what you want to do on your site. But that is a matter of personal preference. - Dee Ross

I think Wordpress Blog is easier to manage and the framework of source code is established very well. So in terms of blogging or writing articles everyday Wordpress is much better.

Does a static html page ping the world automatically when a new post is written? wordpress does.

All the wp plugins and features make it pretty damn robust for all kinds of seo related stuff and automated content generation and syndication. Stuff Id loathe to do manually with a static site.

But it depends on what your site purpose is - no?

I personally prefer WordPress simply because it has EVERYTHING already done for you. You just install, set-up and focus on producing your content. WordPress literally takes care of everything else, as long as you set it up correctly.

I think most php database driven scripts are a bit easier to make one little update or post and the whole site updates itself. If you have a static html site and you want to make 1 change, it might involve opening up all 20 of your static .html pages to complete the update. Where the php script site only 1.

As for traffic I hear some people have good luck with wordpress. I think no mater what script you use or if you have standard html you need to promote it somehow. No promoting, then no traffic. The more you put into it the more you get out of it.

I have been using Wp since its early versions and i can say you that it has only evolved to be a better software.

Almost all my sites run on Wordpress and the main advantage of it is that almost everything is already made and provided for free. There's a huge community backing it and if you can think of any plugin then for sure it is already available with Wordpress. Thats the magic of Wordpress.
