Seo and subdomains

Hi fellow warriors,

Is there a Seo guru on board?
I'd like to do the following:

Get a general domain(.com) and create subdomains on it about different niches.
Will google see the subdomain as a normal domain and what about ranking a subdomain?

I hope you can give me some advice about this.

    I'm not a SEO guru by any means, but I don't think root domains pass on link juice to sub domains very well.

    So for example, I think www.domain.com/topic would be likely to rank better than topic.domain.com
