Eric Schmidt basically slammed bloggers by saying that if you want to know the value of news editors, all you have to do is look at the blog world. Strange coming from the CEO of the company with one of the largest blogging networks and whose search results return blog posts all the time.

I'd love to hear what you have to say about his comments. If you haven't heard about it, then Google it. Actually BIng it because Google doesn't like our kind!

I think he points out a very valid point of there being a lot of crap on the internet, blog or not.

It's easy to understand if you know his politics. He's a leftist corporate socialist statist who believes only big corporations in collusion with big government should wield power or have a voice in policy making. Us little folks should just sit down and shut up.

love that phrase But if he were such a leftist, wouldn't he rather be rooting for equality? (Socialism comes from social, society which includes all of us, not only "the Elite") <- sorry to be way off topic

(Of course, any "real" socialism failed because it resulted in exactly the opposite what it actually stood for, instead of "society controls everything" it turned out Government controls Society.

But, if you pay attention, you will see that is exactly what he is up to. He is almost tied to the apron strings of El Presidente Obama. He is on some commission or task force of Obama's.

And as far as leftie, you can't get much farther left than Obama, unless you are George Sorryass. (sorry, I can't spell his last name) :p

But I am way off topic, and will probably get my post deleted. So to the subject, I totally agree that people like him, do not have any respect for those of us near the bottom of the ladder. Common bloggers are the commoners that have no standing. Definitely not something that the mighty Google should be interested in.

Guess what... Online, nobody really cares if we're commoners, the salt of the earth, or whatever. They only care if we're useful.

You are talking about the people, I was talking about Google. They treat most of us like crap. Cancel Adsense accounts for who knows what, and won't even tell the folks in language that can be understood, just for a start. I could give many other examples, but I shouldn't have to.

Oh, in terms of Google's adsense policies being a cancerous canker sore on the ass of humanity, I agree 200%. See here?

But when the other end of Google talks about bloggers and quality, that's something else entirely.

Equality requires the use of force. Just remember, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

And on the internet, I got to think that Google is the most equal of them all.

I think they have a lot in common with wives. Can't live with em, can't live without them. I am sure that there is ways to live without them, but they are mighty handy to have around.

You know what's interesting. If everyone in this forum and internet marketing community worked together "WE" could actually shift users to using another search engine like Bing.

Think about how much and how many times you see marketers mention Google both online and offline. I strongly believe Google grew because of our kind, because we influenced others that Google was the best.

Maybe I should create a product on how to make massive cash with Bing...

    anyways there's my 2 cents...

The problem with most bloggers is that they're so busy being anti everything that they never really figure out what they are all about.

I've done a lot of work on rss aggregation and I can tell you that the vast majority of blogs are useless because they either 1) can't stay focused on a theme or topic, or 2) they aren't really blogs at all, they're static-hyperseo'd-sales pages disguised as blogs.

The editors were the voice of consistency, professionalism and reason. They had minimum standards. Yes, they were kinda corporate, but they're still writers at heart. Now we're killing off the paid media, and what are we replacing it with?

    Editorial Policy

    Blog Style Guide

If your blog stays on point, is well presented, and is semi professional looking, then you are not one of the blogs he was talking about.

I dislike their Hypocrisy - Google is a MEGA company (i personally think that many people actually don't even realize HOW BIG Google actually is and what numbers are shoveled there)

They make crazy money from ads and advertisers, at the same time telling "us" how bad exactly those things are. (Aka "moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com deleted") and strongly opposing us affiliates, getting more restrictive every day, kicking the "little guys" while at the same time increasing their profits.

And..its not only Google but Squidoo, Facebook and the likes doing the same. Ironically, all those started out founded by some nerds, not unlike many of us, and now greed takes over and restrictions.

How much do Google data centers cost?

Each of the four new Google data center projects unveiled in 2007 cost an estimated $600 million. That figure includes capital investment for construction, infrastructure and computers for two data center buildings, according to Schnitt. Each project budget includes two data center facilities, with the option of adding a third, which would require additional expense beyond the $600 million. Those expenses will be realized over time. In its earnings reports, Google reported $1.9 billion in spending on data centers in 2006 and $2.4 billion in 2007.
Just so you get an idea...and they have like 40-50 datacenters. The numbers are mind boggling.
