SEO and Duplicate Content?

I've read A LOT about SEO and duplicate content but i have a question that is a little bit more in-depth



I have a niche site that i have created a lot of unique content for, however, I also have copy and pasted a lot of "the best Of" type articles that will register as duplicate content because they were posted elsewhere first.

So will duplicate content pages on my website hurt the ranking ability of all the pages on my website?

    That is probably not a big deal. When you use duplicate a whole site, or use the same article over and over, that is more of a problem. Also, a big problem is when you have a site that is composed almost entirely of duplicate content. To think in google's terms, you have to ask the question: How is this page or site adding value?

      Duplicate content comes up when you start running Ads (PPC) & also if it's duplicate content on the same site.

      Ex - google maybe indexing www.you.com/coolstuff.html & you.com/coolstuff.html and view that as duplicate content.

      That is baaaad.

      But other than that Google has no way of really caring about duplicate content. If 5000 news agencies decide to print the president's speech Google won't slap down 5000 news sites.

    Duplicate content means that you should not have the same content on your website.you should have different content on each page..

    If there are multiple similar content, Google will find out which article was indexed earlier. However the most crucial factor is the number of links pointing to the article.
