hello everyone,

I have a website where I build constantly backlinks on. mainly I have high pr profile links which alone are about 300 or so but my rankings dont go up instead I even dropped from page 5 to page 12!
There has been a lot of google dance happening lately and sometimes (very short times) I see my site on top 20 but mainly it goes back to its old position. the site is about 6 months old, has about 10 articles with keyword-rich subpages.

can someone comment on this strange behaviour of google?

    Spread your links.

If you're just building profile links you're not impressing Google.

Also go and check your stick rate.

People removing links hurts your SERPS.

I would also add more content, give Google a reason to love you.

Start looking at a more diverse portfolio of links.

Blog backlinks (google's been pretty kind to this currently)
Forum backlinks, you'll need to offer value or be prepared for em to be removed.
    Profiles.
2.0, still work well if you add content to them regularly and random link between them.
    Document sharing sites.
    RSS
    Article Directories.
    Press Releases.

Throw in a few paid high high quality links here and there.
Vary the anchor text, somewhat, don't need to go crazy with this.

If you're relying purely on hammering profile links, you'll be very lucky to see
    anything happen of any worth.

Profile links are not so powerful. Many people have automated software for creating thousands of profile links.

I would class a profile link like a blog comment. Point them at your web 2.0 properties then point your web 2.0 properties to your main site.

Manual profile link building is pointless for any competitive keyword. Do like the big boys and setup a link washing system if you want to use profile links.

well, this is what disturbs me. there are so many people claiming here that they got mega rankings by just using high pr profile links and even for such competitive terms !
you see products related to this in the wso section a lot.
I think there are also a lot of people who didnt see good results from these profile links.

btw, I didnt just built profile links!

Blindly, spamming, zonking, whatever you want to call it,
profile links is just bad. And I hope it dies a quick death.
sadly, too many people here gleefully post a bunch of
places to spam a profile, and worse, automate it.

But in threads like this, it is funny how the obvious never
        comes up: Competition.

Link washing!!!! Man that is sooooo funny!

Works like money laundering. Drug money comes in,
money goes to Job Blow, he goes into drycleaning store
and gets a ton of garments drycleaned. Pays for it using
the drug money. Now the drug money is clean.

With link washing, you wash a link through an unrelated site
to a related site. I don't feel like going further, cuz the whole
idea is stupid. High PR links, relevant or not, are very, very
valuable. In fact, there are some sites that vaguely are
related to others. So relevant backlinks is actually dang near
        impossible.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

So the whole idea of link washing is to get your profile backlinks in to another micro blog, related to your original blog?
          thanks
