Backlinks to sub pages

Hi all,

I have a fairly large main site. The main page is in good standing with google with plenty of backlinks (a few k) and decent pr that been about a few years.

Im using a system to get loads of back links to a category on the site which is new. Would google penalise us for getting loads of links all of a sudden to this new category / page?

If it did would it just effect this category or would it effect the whole site.

What im hoping is this category and its contents gets picked up from google very quicky and onto page 1 for the targeted keywords. Im curious to know if we build to many backlinks t this category and the "sandbox" effects hit us would this effect just the category or would it apply to the whole site?

If the site dosnt get effected, then the backlinks ( approx 200-300 in a week) then im hoping this will catapult it high in the rankings pretty quickly.

Is something i though i would try but dont want to jeorpodise the whole site, but dont mind if this new category gets penalised in itself.

If you already have a strong link profile for the main domain, then links to a new category shouldn't throw anything off.

kind of what i thought, the keywords i want the category to rank for arnt to hard, but wanted to make sure we got up their.

With a strong site, im think this will just help this category a hell of a lot? what do you guys think?

I would think it wouldn't do any harm. I hear Google likes to see more than just the main page of a site getting linked to as well. So I think it would probably help the whole thing or at least do no harm.

Google usually slaps new domains that only have a page or two if it observes masses of forced links.

Can you imagine if facebook put up a new page to run a competition and 10m other websites linked to the competition overnight, do you think google would slap facebook?

      I dont think so.

To answer your question, go for it...but do realise that if google detects that your links are forced and not natural, they probably wont reward you for all your links...but would not sandbox your site.
