Well....depends how long you've been around. Some years back they use to rock in Google. It used to be that all you had to do to get on the first page was build a good lens, bookmark, push a couple of articles to it, and bam. Also they had far fewer ads. Now however it's a bit different.

I wouldn't say that have completely feel out of favor with Google, but they're definitely not ranking as easily as they once used to. Again that was a long time ago though. That being said, you can still rank them and they can still produce for you. I still have lenses from years back that make $150-$200 a month for me.

All that being said though, I highly recommend you go with Hubpages. Yes they might be a big more of a pain to work with in terms of their TOS, but they still get plenty of Google, and esp. Yahoo love. Plus IMO, it's a much cleaner and less distracting look.

Squidoo was slapped at one point because I heard a few marketers were using frames to redirect clicks from a product they were promoting to porn sites. I' not 100% sure of how much that is true, but Squidoo does not allow frames in their lenses.

Because Squidoo was slapped once, their TOS has been updated to restrict certain topics from being written about. So be sure to check their TOS to know what the new rules are.

Despite their ups and downs with ranking, Squidoo is still a great platform and content manager for you to be able to communicate with your readers. That's what Seth Godin, the founder of Squidoo, had always intended.

Yup yup! Don't remember the porn problems, but it was about two years ago ( I don't remember exactly ) when Google slapped the crap out of Squidoo...LITERALLY overnight. I remember waking up to a phone call from a marketing buddy of mine. That night my sites where sitting high and mighty, next night all of them gone from any even decent rankings.

Why? Im'ers (as freakin usual) were completely abusing the site and creating junk that redirected to junk programs etc...

They've recovered a bit since, but not like it was. And that was a great point by genietoast, you might want to double check their TOS on affiliate programs etc. I know they're still allowed but probably with more restrictions now.

I would say Google hates Squidoo, I haven't seen a lens rank in months! According to Wikipedia they did get B*tch slapped by Google because they were paying people to write content or something.

And since then their rules have become stricter and stricter to the point of ridiculousness. Just do a search about all the changes and their new policies.

I didn't have much luck with ranking squidoo lenses so I stopped using them. Also, I haven't seen much squidoo lenses in search engines lately.

It seems like there was an article on TMZ about it. As I recall, Squidoo went out partying with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and Google got miffed about it and they haven't spoken since.

      HAHAHAHA! Oh that's just perfect.

Really though, do yourself a favor and just focus on HubPages.

I think they are still viable for backlinking and having a 3rd party page. I have some 1st page rankings out there, so they can still rank too. Just depends what you do with em.
