Would you pay to rank in Google?

Would you rather see Google offer some sort of top 3 or top 5 (other than Adwords) ranking to any keyword, then the the organic searches below? Perhaps you prefer organic searches the way they are.

People that want a top listing pay anyway. They pay with time or money to get ranked. Maybe Google should collect that money themselves. Of course then we get into bidding wars, etc. and people would still fight for the organic searches.

I don't know how it would be done, but would you like to pay for a top listing?

  • i don't think i would like to pay to get myself in the top listing in google. The main reason is that it's going to become a bidding war, one person is going to pay more than the other. All the big companies can can pretty much monopolize the top listings(wouldn't give much chance to the little people). Stick to the current system that we have now and make it a level playing field.

If you are talking about "paying" for the top 3 adwords
ads that may appear above searches, google will
      never sell that.

They pride themselves on not selling top billing.

But, since they only choose ads from the adword pool,
the sites that show up have indeed paid and are paying.

It's just that they are chosen based on different algorithm,
      not on highest paid.

Now remember, I am talking about the 3 ads that appear
above the searches, not the ones on the right side.

I prefer them the way they are now. If they allowed people to pay for a top 5 listing it would make no sense because whoever has the most money would always be on the top. It defeats the purpose of their algorithm (at least for the first few listings).

I am strongly agree with you. the best way to get the ranking in google is by SEO. so try the method used in seo. because google algorithm follows the back links, artcle, bookmarking and so many method. so advertisement can any one do.

Did you see that april fools joke that a LOT of people mistook for real when a news site published it as such? Claimed that Google was going to start charging for top ranks, to make a long story short. They'd be sued off the planet! And rightfully so. It's best now, when indeed, large companies may have more money to throw at SEO than most of us, but there are still ways of working smarter and getting a piece of the pie yourself in spite of it if you do it right. That wouldn't be so if you were locked out of the top spots by a cash agreement. That would totally suck.

This would seem to defeat the purpose of why google became successful -- by showing relevant results for whatever the query might be. If I typed in Mother Day ideas and 1800-Flowers popped up because they paid for the top spot I would be a little peeved. I can handle advertising on the page, but please keep it out of my organic search...
