I am always confused when people say that "they got top rank" in one of their 5,6,7.....keyword phrase(s).I still wonder how one site will be optimized to more than one keyword.
Please the SEO expert here should give a helping hand to my ignorance.Just explain how to do this? How you normally check for your site rank,if you SEOd for more than one keyword....

Please....

    Hi kcgeorge,

There are limits to how many keywords you can optimize for, with on-page optimization techniques on a single page. I usually limit it to no more than three phrases. However, there is no limit to how many pages your site has, therefore no limit to the number of keywords your site is optimized for.

To see an example of a site that is optimized for many different keywords look at about.com or ezinearticles.com.

You can even use off-page optimization to rank for an unlimited number of terms on a single page, though you would be better off narrowing your focus on each page.

Most likely various pages of their site are ranking for various keywords rather than just the home page.

basically i would optimize my page with the focus on one maybe two keywords

but when someone says they are optimized for 5 to 6 keywords.. they basically mean they have optimized other pages on their site.. like articles or blog posts etc

            Thanks bro,
This is very precise....'Cause i always think how they normally do it.I as well thought maybe they reproduce site pages with different keywords.

You gave me a clearer picture of it now...Thanks once again.
I will also welcome more post...

It also may depend on what your website content is about. If it is a mainstream business, then you likely will have many products /services and therefore you'll need to rank for many different keywords. (This is one thing you need to qualify when you "hear people talk" as you mentioned in your original post... people do talk alot... doesn't mean yo have to listen).
Generally, it is a good strategy to optimise each page on your website for just one or 2 keywords strings.

There are often variations for certain keywords which allow you to come up for 3 or even four different keyword phrases on any given page. It is often fruitless to target keywords that are not in your title tag.

                      Hi kcgeorge,

I think that if you can figure out how to do more than one phrase and it still makes since to your visitors, then go for it. It's like getting 2 or 3 for the price of one.

The most important factor is quality not quantity. If you throw up a bunch of gibberish, and expect to get results, you are only fooling yourself.

                        Each page ranks by itself.

You focus one page per keyword you want to rank for.

It will rank for other related keywords by default anyway.

Put the keyword in the page name, Headline and write related words on the page.

Get links to that page with a similar keyword and you will start to get focus.

                          Hello James,
Do you mean articles submitted by the word "page"? Again you mean i use same keyword for my resource box? Dig it please.

I meant each page on your site. It is the same though if you mean articles for submission on article sites or even squidoo sites - each 500 word block should be written with SEO in mind.

Yes - by links from articles resource box you would match that in with your page name when linking back to the site.

So if you have a page on your site like: handygardeningsecrets.com/vines-category.html and you want to link to it from an external article then you would put anchor text in your article bio box like:

Visit our site to become an expert on the subject of <a href="http://www.handygardeningsecrets.com/vines-category.html">vines</a>

actually, the thing with SEO is how you can manage to put the keywords in the right way, with the right number of repetition, that it would look substantial enough to be read. Limit your repetition of keyword especially if it is a short article and place it in strategic places throughout the article.

Trying to worry about keyword repetition is a waste of time. Just write natural content with a good headline and page name and you will do well.

"still wonder how one site will be optimized to more than one keyword"

it is simple. Just build backlinks with different anchor text, and you will rank better for the keywords that you use in the anchor text.

SEO or search engine optimization is a technique used to make your Web pages more useful for your customers while making them more transparent and understandable to search engines. SEO is an inexpensive way to help your Web site get more page views by creating Web pages that rank highly in search engine results.

    Hello,

I have many sites that rank top for many different keywords.

Normally, I create one page for each keyword and do it that way.

Just say that I want to rank for 5 keywords. I would create 5 different pages and carry out on-page SEO for each page and they would rank in the SERPS like this:

    yoursite.com/page

Of course I publish totally unique content on each page that I want to rank from the same site. Make sure you do, too, else Google will give your site a duplicate content penalty.

    Hope this helps,

    Angilina had it right.

Basically, I am ranking for keywords I have never targeted in my keyword tags, and never created back links with those anchors. You can rank for more than one keyword per page, what everyone else says is still effective but not necessary. Add content with keywords you want. If you achieve a high ranking in one keyword, the rest is easier.

Yes, you can theoretically have an endless amount of keywords to rank in, by adding back links, with whatever anchored text you are shooting for. You can also modify pages with tags and titles that relate to your keyword. The keywords in your meta tags, are not very powerful at all. In fact, I can rank for keywords that aren't listed as my keywords at all.

Just make sure your site is optimized. Target a specific keyword at first, and once you start ranking, go for another, and so on.
