Localized SEO Strategy

Hi,

Would like to know what are the criteria for an effective localized seo strategy (as in targeting specific country by itself).

Of course, getting a local domain extension will be the first thing to do.

My questions
- do we need to consider localized backlinking strategy? Is submitting articles to the usual top domain articles directory (ezinearticles, goarticles...etc.) yield the same result vs local article directory?

- is local hosting an important factor? Vs those international hosting vendors, for eg. hostgator.

Thanks.

What you need to do is sign up for a google webmasters account.

    Google Webmaster Central

From there you can specify your target audience. Google Webmasters is a great tool, it's free, and this should solve your problem.

Try not to localize your backlinks that's unnecessary.

      Hi friend,

Thanks for the tip. Never thought of that.

Can I assume that if my .COM set as UK audience, it will rank exactly the same with .CO.UK?

We did a localized SEO project for a Canadian customer last year. We also submitted to country specific directories, or under categories that were specific to the area. But we maintained the International submissions as usual. We had great success.

SEO experts feel that related websites linking back into to a specific country or region have greater value for localized SEO.

Based on expert feedback, Geographic location of the server/hosting seem to be an important factor. The highest contributing factor to search engine placement was TLD selection. Here are some other hosting specific items you should consider:
    • Server/Hosting up-time
    • Number of Hosts sharing your IP Address/Server
    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

Ok great to know that I have to solely rely on local directories.

I'm currently working for a site in London now and I can see that submitting to local business listing is good. When it comes to SERP any website may do so. They can help in the improvements of your rankings.

To help you understand better, realize that the keywords not only go into headings and page names but also into "meta tags". "Meta tags" are the software code that website visitors do not see but search engines do.

      good luck!!
      Thanks.

I wonder if putting country name into the meta tag would help.

No don't do that. Unless the country name is related to your sites content.

webmasters should do the trick for you.
