    Did they? what's changed?
i noticed that rejuvenate the design of the google front page and search results page. Which is quite refreshing i must say. I bet they are trying to compete with Facebook which is focusing on social advertising.

So you believe that they are going to be focusing on social search results/advertising?

it'd be interesting to see.. i have seen more and more API appear on search results, such as twits from celebrity if you search their names, their music on top of the page, or facebook integration in the bottom of the search results.

Google is into their 4th/5th year. It's fight or drop time for them. Either innovate or become history, like someone once said, Google still only have one main revenue model, search advertising, and they need to find a second source of revenue.

Though a lot of people say Google can survive because they are sticking to what they do best.. and focused on being #1 in search.

I agree, Google needs to act like a dyslexic and learn how to adapt or suffer the pains of rejection......

YES google has big changes and so I am trying to figure out because I thought its just me or the country I am at, or its my browser settings because I installed the new version of firefox 2 days ago.

First my problem is I cannot display the Page Rank icon at Firefox even if I checked the icon in the toolbar Options of Firefox but at IE I can easily display the PR icon. I cannot figure it out until now with the new version (3.6.3) of Firefox so I just installed the SEO toolbar... But somebody know how to enable the PR icon on the new version of Firefox?

I leave that problem for now because I found out this new changes in google that affects me in searching/verifying keywords in quotes. I tried to look at my settings and no success so I logged in here to see what is happening and saw this thread..

I usually search at google for my keywords in quotes and we all understand what we see when we search in quotes. The results used to be like 1500 of 125,000 or something..

Now, when I search in quotes I cannot understand what I see. For instance, when I search "what happened" the result is About 52,100,000 results (0.21 seconds)

What is happening? ...I cannot work now I need the old google in verifying keywords.

Or there is something wrong with my settings?

EDIT: Ooopss .... Disregard my post above I think I panic with the changes since I was not able to search for keywords for about a month now and surprised with the new look of google.....maybe because I just finished dealing with someone hacking all my websites and it took me a month to fix it and now I still have a hangover and still suspicious of any changes..

I checked again and compared the results with the previously searched keywords i have here (using old google) and the numbers are the same. With the new google, the search results font is just smaller and located under the search box unlike before where it is located on the right side with very visible bold font ...and now instead of displaying 7,760 of 125,000 it will display ...About 7,760 results..

      Sorry...I panic

Lets get this age thing out of the whey

      January 1996

Google's cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin started working on the BackRub, it later become Google.

      Sept. 15, 1997

This is when, as the AFP reports, Google registered the google.com url.

      Sept. 7, 1998
This is when Google officially incorporated.

      Sept. 27, 1998

Back in 2005, Google declared that Sept. 27 was its birthday. But wait -- what happened with that Sept. 7 date? Well, in 2005, Yahoo came and freaked Google out by announcing an index that was larger than Google's. It had been a long time since anyone did that. Quite a debate ensued. Things got resolved by Google doing some PR. So they announced that for their "birthday," they'd gotten bigger -- but were also dropping the count of pages from the home page, which helped (thankfully) defuse the size wars that often meant nothing about search quality. lol

But usually they won't let anyone know the full details what's change, they are vague about giving information.

If you want to be updated about SEO I recommend subscribe from their Google Alert. It will email you the specific topic you want to be updated not only about SEO but also other topic as well.

Like me for example I use this to make sure I'm always updated with new information not only about Google but also from experts who knows more about SEO.

Trust me it is very handy if you have no time to search and read from site to site.
Regardless of what they say over at google we need to just test test test and not rely on old or data from 2-3 days ago.
