Hey Guys

Long story short: Is there a Google Search Results Page #5 Penalty?

IF yes, any reference I can look at?

Anyone experiencing this?

yep, I currently have it for 12 sites, think it was for interlinking all of them (blogroll) even though they were related to each other. Far as I can tell it tripped an automatic google filter. It's been a month now with the average time for release from the penalty being around 3 months according to my research (thats if you manage to fix what caused the penalty in the first place)

There are loads of threads about this on webmasterworld. Its normally referred to as a -50 penalty or -60 penalty. All of my twelve sites had page one ranking but now rank on either page 5,6 or 7.

I have other sites on the same server (same topic) that were not interlinking and were not affected so i reckon it was the interlinking. really stoopid of me

One other thing to add is I had 3 sites interlinking with these 12 which were not affected because they were hosted elsewhere

    Ok, thanks for feedback Dennis.

Problem is I never had these sites interlinked and it's been 2 years now.

    Really weird.

I asked for reconsideration at Webmasters Tools - twice in 2 years - and no difference.

    It seems a "hand-made" penalty.

Google, for sure is up for some change, and if you check some major forums you will find a lot of people whose websites have seen a major drop in ranking since mid March and early April. I am one of them and as per the experience there are these main factors affecting the ranking

      1) Domain Age
      2) Site Speed
      3) Links

I read a good article about Google Caffeine (the effects and optimization methods). The above mentioned reasons have been a major factor for deciding website ranking after implementing Caffeine.

      Fernando,

You were just posting the other day in my "quality linking" thread about how there was no Google penalty.

You got sandboxed without me even having to scrapebox your site..

If this is a new domain, expect to be "in the box" for a few months. Keep building links though.. If you want to get out of it faster, You need to find a PR4+ link immediately.

Oh, you're 'sandboxed'. Here's what you do, straight from Mother Colocutoda, the voodoo SEO high priestess...

First, lay a straw broom across your monitor with your site in the browser at night so Google can can't come in and hurt your rankings more.

Next, get some bristles from a freshly roasted pig, tie these to a freshly killed rooster foot using new, unbleached, twine strings. Print out a picture of Matt Cutts and put it in a brass picture frame and hang it upside down on the wall next to your computer. Dip the rooster foot and pig bristles into a mixture of the pig and rooster blood and rub it on the picture. Soon the curse will be lifted.

Or, just go get some mo' better links.

I've also heard from a secret but credible source that voodoo charm dancing will also remove this curse.

        Joe,

Remember what I told you before? Here, again, for the last time:

I don't believe there is a Google penalty for external sources doing bad things to your site using backlink spam.

Do I really need to say it again?

Or are you game for it and prove me wrong in my own website: Ganhar Dinheiro na Internet com Fernando Veloso

        Go ahead, sandbox it.

If it was that SIMPLE, I just needed to trash your backlink strategy and be #1 for all keywords.

You just post and don't care to read what I posted before, the same post you actually quoted:

Problem is I never had these sites interlinked and it's been 2 years now.
These are 6 year sites Joe.

Is there a double listing for the site on page 5? (home page and inner page) This can be a sign of a penalty. Does it show sitelinks on page 5? (another sign)

Hey Dennis, thanks, appreciate the feedback.

Yes, there are double listing for those sites. Why do you say that can be a sign of a penalty? Have you got any reference? Any link? Any discussion elsewhere? Love to follow a discussion on this subject as you might imagine.

This is bugging me cause we've been working those sites as usual and for 2 years they did not move a inch. Even when there's a big change in SERP's those sites stay same spot.

            It makes no sense.

Hi Fernando, I read a lot on possible penalties and causes when I ran into my problem. I found the best info by far on webmasterworld

Try this - Google (lots of threads on WMW)

Maybe check for any onsite problems such as malware. try this outbound link checker - Cachechecker - How to check if your site has been hacked

                Thanks again Dennis, appreciated.

The sites are clear, just checked again. And I moved them to a new hosting less then a year. Backlink profile is clean too. All unique content. No spammy articles.

Heck, at least we managed to keep them updated every 3 days since 2004.

                That alone is a victory.

Too bad we see sites with 10 articles and 4K sitewide backlinks from same site ranking top 10 for 2 years.

If G wants to drop people OFF, at least drop the right ones.

So, you were going to scrapebox his site with the sole intention of trying to sandbox the site?

This usually happens when previously strong links are discounted or lost.

For example, I recently had a site lose a strong link because the site owner switched to nofollow on all external links. The ranking of the site dropped, as might be expected, from page 1 to page 3 for most keywords.

Another example that happens if you use blog comment links. You get a nice PR4 comment link, then spammers come in an post 100 comments. The link juice from the page gets devalued and your site loses ranking.

Only use this when your site is not indexed (banned). Don't use this when you simply don't like your rankings.

site:yourwebsite.com <-- slap that into google (remember to change it to your url)

if your site is listed, you are not banned
if your site is only one week old and not listed, you are not banned

people are way to quick to jump to conclusions about being banned, penalized or in the sandbox when in most cases their sites simply don't merit being ranked any higher.

You can't always be on page one, somebody has to be on pages 2 - 10

    Guys,

These are 6 year old sites. Not a new site who got "sandboxed". They have fresh new unique content every week (2-3 articles per week), backlink diversity, high PR direct links, etc. We never stopped working on them. NEVER.

These sites rank page 5 for two years and they have high PR links pointing to them - real links, not the usual mambojambo profile links. They have a diverse backlink structure and they are NOT sites stuffed with ****.

Again, these are NOT new sites. And the backlink structure shows:

    High PR links
Diversity of backlinks in own site, article directories, press releases, blog commenting, blog posts, video, social networks, etc etc etc.

    Hi there

These kind of issues are very difficult to solve its not down to being `sandboxed` its usually down to a lack of trust in the site that triggers a filter, ive had a site like this myself, there are loads of reasons why you might be having problems but if you dont post the url not much we can do really.

    This is very discouraging.

Checked one competitor ranking #10 and what I find out:

30+ outbound links to affiliate stuff - almost 100% of outbound links.
3K incoming links - 90% from same forum signature

    This is VERY discouraging.

This is a site ranking top 10 for almost 2 years.

I am having a similar problem where I get stuck on page 4 for multiple keywords. I think it is some type of filter or something.
