PPC or SEO? Take Your Pick

I found this rather interesting article about a debate on PPC vs. SEO.

This is the article.
PPC or SEO? The Ultimate Search Marketing Battle

This article actually made me think twice about my methods but for me, SEO wins. I will tell you my reasons.

1. SEO is harder but lasts longer even without expenses. Just think about it this way. The more backlinks I build for my website, the more traffic I get from different areas in the long run. With PPC. It lasts for as long as my wallet can take it.

2. There is a higher click rate in SE listings than PPC ad listings in my testing. Though it can be beneficial to the PPC people for it will only generate targeted clicks, still if you are promoting products and you want to convert people to a sale, getting more exposure is better. And the best part, with SEO, I do not have to pay for each click.

I know that the downside of this is that I cannot choose some keywords unlike PPC.

So what's your pick?

    Hi airabongco,

Which is faster, hopping on one leg, or running on two?

Anyone who feels compelled to choose one SEM method over the other has already made the wrong choice. They each have their pros and cons, but when you combine them you can really sprint past those one legged hoppers.

PPC is best for fast quick results

SEO is best for the long haul

I try and do both daily for my sites

I agree, both PPC and SEO are going to be useful. Like already stated PPC is faster, but SEO works much longer for the efforts. Why pay for every click to your site if you can start doing some things now to make sure they will be free in the future? A lot of times though it's good to have your PPC landing pages and such optimized for SEO, at least I always have.

I definitely use both. Like some others said, SEM for short term results and SEO for long term. But I like to keep going with SEM because there are some one word keyword terms that I am never going to rank for in SEO and I don't want to ignore all of that traffic.

I have always thought to use both. I use PPC to start the site and SEO to keep it going.

I have taught SEO to many people in my spare time. It is amazing how people think that searching for a their website should show up right away. Once I show them SEO for the site a week later google is displaying their site for many keywords.

Personally I like the lazy way with PPC. It is so easy to make money with Adwords. My latest campaign started yesterday I am up 5 bucks. Doesn't seem like much but that was a net profit of 50 percent. I just don't have the bank roll to spend thousands to make thousands. It will be a couple of years but I am sure I will get there. Hard work in anything will always pay off.

Nice thread by the way. I love the comparison.

Combination of both will bring lot of good results. SEO is good in long term results and PPC is really good for short term results. They have to be blend together.
