Pages within a domain SERP

I was just wondering how Google ranks pages which are in the same domain. For example, my competitor is number one on Google for a term with ezinearticles, but my article is below his in position 1.5 (kind of offset to the side).

Is there anyway that I can take his place by linking to my article?

Thanks

Of course, backlink your article linke a mofo, i recommend doing an open ended link wheel, randomly linked, and thats always worked wonders for me...Also you might want to check out some threads in here about how to rank on most viewed/most published list on ezine it self...Hugh for internal backlinks to your article...At least it has been for me (allegedly)

Thanks for the response. Just to be clear, would my link replace his or would his still be visible below mine? Is it possible for two ezinearticles articles to sit next to eachother in the SERP?
