Hi All,

I just checked the stats for one of my sites using Market Samurai and its showing a huge drop in the number of backlinks. Since yesterday I've all of a sudden lost like 100+ backlinks for several keywords.

Anybody else experience this? What the heck?

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Remember the average lifespan of a web page is 75 days. I heard that somewhere. Means that pages die every day and you have to work to keep replacing them.

Market Samurai gets it's backlink data from Yahoo Site Explorer. The same thing happened to me today too, but it's back to normal now. Just give it a day or two.

Ive witnessed Yahoo Site Explorer flush a page's backlinks index on several occasions. It usually reappears with a more accurate count/listing in 48 hrs or less.

I suspect YSE is going out to those pages and rechecking for the links.

No I havent tested this "formally" - but thats what appears to be happening anecdotally. Your mileage may vary - be sure to test it out for yourself.

IF you don't see any changes in serps (and I have not seen any earth shattering ones yet) then I would assume its a reporting error not links being discounted.

Yup I lost over 2,500 links in Yahoo today, but who cares? Yahoo doesn't report all of the links they know about anyways (despite what everyone says) and you still get credit for links that are not listed in Yahoo, so their tool is pretty much worthless as far as I'm concered.

Sad to hear links disappearing, as long as they aren't high juice pages I would not stress.

My site is 5 days old (its the one in sig). still showing no backlinks kinda disappointing but I know they will eventually show up.. hopefully soon.

Yes the links maybe be back but Im seeing a difference. I see that some of my links that are on my sidebar isn't being reported. I check with YSE and they are not showing. Don't know why? But I have one post that dropped from 1st to 12th in Google and Im not sure why. Anyhow, Im kinda tired of thinking about this.

Contrary to what some people think...I personally think that Google does rely on YSE...But thats just my 2 cents

Why would google rely on yahoo when google has more data than yahoo and bing combined...

Hey, I didn't say I had it all figured out?

But you do make a good point. I just saw a big drop on one of posts that was ranked #1 and as soon a YSE had problems with backlinks I have watched that post drop in the rankings. For #1 to #13...so that was only my theory.
Even as I continue to build links. So that is how I arrived at my theory.

Yahoo site explorer dropped significantly the past few weeks, but all of a sudden they seem to be back or mostly back now. Maybe the site you mention queries yahoo's site explorer.
