Approving Blog Comments - Does it Help With SEO?

Ok so i have about 5 blogs that have like 92 comments on them each. Almost all of them are complete spam, however I can edit them. See where i'm going with this?

If I happen to change these blog comments, would this help improve seo? I would only change them to help compliment my blog, not to help link to the 435 male enhancement spammers that are looking for an outbound.

Any word?

Yeah, probably , if the content is related to your theme, then it's
unique fresh content being added to your site.

    NO bad thing.

Great idea. I guess you might as well target your keywords in those blog comments too.

I always approve really honest comments that have interest in the article, never ever approve comments that have links within pointing to other sites. Also, i dont believe that the comments will make you fall of your serps....thats just too much and big blogs would really feel it if it was this way.

Google considers UGC when ranking a page, so yes it can help, if they are real comments

If it's not related, remove all spam comments. Viagra likes links will harm for your site.

I don’t approve spam comments at all, many are stupid, aren’t written in English and have nothing to do with the topic being discussed. Once I received a comment along the lines of “Perhaps the purpose of your life is to serve as a warning to others.” and then 7 other comments written using Japanese and/or Chinese symbols linking to different websites followed. This was all in response to a post notifying my readers that I was moving from blogger over to a hosted blog.

Well sounds like a very good idea.. I am not sure the spammy links which will be in the url option may harm the site or not but if it works it is really a revolutiary idea..Have never thought about it.. I don't know if anyone else had given it a try before.. if it works then please let us know..

The way to go is to "nofollow" your blog or just
shut off comments. No way are comments ever
going to increase anything except spam.

I think that will just leave a bad image to your blog and maybe others will be afraid to post comments on your blog. Just don't approved the spammy comments and if you think a comment has the right to be posted then give the tribute to the commenter.

Yes, that would be a great idea, however, it will consume much time of your in editing them. But, surely it will have a good impact on the visitors and search engines.

Haha, i didnt know i was going to stir up the revolution with this one, but...

I came up with the idea because i was basically tired of deleting all the spam comments to find the good ones.

I think it will def. help with seo, as the se's find comments as proof that your site is worth something.

Here's to all the spammers out there

I'm not sure what the point of doing this would be.

OK... let's assume that comments = fresh content and shows the SE Gods that you're site is active and loved by the masses, which is why they are commenting on your site. We'll assume that this is a good thing and will benefit your site.

Problem is, the masses who love you so much are Mr. Get Rich Quick and Florida Vacation Homes with links included.

The easy solution is to go nofollow and moderate. However, moderating comments is a pain in the...

The best solution is to strip the link field out of your comments code completely. (do)follow, nofollow, it doesn't matter... nobody is getting a link, legitimate or not, on your blog.

Now you can let the spammers spam away.

Since most of the spammers are using scrapebox and spinning comments now-a-days, most of the comments are going to be generic great site blah blah blah which isn't going to hurt your site and might even benefit it due to the constant activity... every comment is a free ping!

Rewriting comments... seems like extra monkey work too me.

BTW... people leaving honest comments aren't looking for backlinks so not being able to leave a link shouldn't be an issue.

why shouldnt i take advantage of there unique ip
Search engines aren't looking at the IP of people who leave a comment on your site. They don't even have access to it unless you post it publicly. Only your internal stats can see it.

I remove all non related self promotional comments and keep all related self promotional or not. I agree that that is sort of like writing your own comments (fake) I don't have many comments yet but if I did change up the comments it would equal to about 75% more lol but nah I would rather keep it somewhat real. I realize that many, if not all, of the comments I do approve are there simply because they wanted to add their link but I also realize its new content so win win.

This strategy works for me. People who make comments add keyword rich unique content which helps a lot with SEO traffic.

I completely agree with this. Think about it guys, look at some of the top articles and blogs in the SERPs, and you will see many of them have comments in them. I'm gonna try it.

Someone will probably come up with a wordpress plugin soon that does all this. All the spam posts get modified to boost your own site.

    Would be kinda ironic

  • I don't think its gonna help in SEO. How can Google not recognize the spam when you yourself can recognize it? Although they are from different IP addresses and different servers yet I think they are too obvious to get tracked by Google. I'm not sure if it helps.

if it is related yes, if it is not not good. Also not only content, some content is good and then link that is in there name is against your site.

I sell ad space on my blogs so am a bit weary about allowing people to link back to other websites via my blogs. It’s like they are stealing traffic from me. For this reason, there are very few comments that I actually approve, and when I do approve them, I tend to remove the offsite url or replace it with a link to another site of mine or another section of the blog where the comment is appearing.
