I've noticed that if your entire site linking portfolio is made up of profile links, they will start to become devalued.

Mix it up. Add forum posts, blog comments, articles, social bookmarking, etc.

I would agree with Dan here. Definitely worth building and they will help you rank initially. Don't rely on them though because your rankings will drop off if they are your sole source of backlinks.

I find that they work great for some initial ranking boosts...but I always move on to higher quality links once a page starts to rank. Use them to get your content noticed, but don't rely on them.

these backlinks are good for start up and you shouldn't actually have your link building campaign full of such links... BTW the link packets are highly distributed these days and the site owners are deleting the links.. Its better if you find your own links

Building only Profile Backlinks is Dangerous. Especially, if you are adding your links without any content.

I have sites using purely profile backlinks and they are still working for me well and I have not seen any problems mentioned here. Some of the sites are more than 6 months old.

I think that profile links are the last step in the SEO process, it should not be a stand alone but yes it is still effective.

I have a site that was suddenly downgraded from PR3 to PR0. The only thing that had changed is that I bought a package of 150 (30 sites with 5 links each) profile page backlinks through an offer on the Warrior Forum. I am now going through the process of manually deleting all those links because I suspect they caused the drop. BTW, my SERPs have not dropped, just my PR.

That is exactly what I was about to ask.

What qualifies as a higher quality backlink?

Backlinks can't hurt you. It was probably just a coincidence, as long as your traffic has stayed the same or better who cares about the PR anyways.

There is NO such link as a high PR profile link. They are all PR0. PR is per page, NOT per site.

Profile links are spam and really piss forum owners off. I run a network of many forums. We delete all who join to profile link drop and report the sites to Google via their spam report tool as using this method to link build. IP addresses are also reported to stopforumspam, so you will be blacklisted from forums that use the stopforumspam service.

Google have a blog post about NOT building backlinks this way, so assume that are or soon will be passing 0 link juice through them or even penalizing for them.

Profile backlinks must be Niche related... I suggest these only to get some good .gov or .edu links.. For all other we can do lot of things..
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[2253955].message }}
  • If you create a backlink from .edu sites and with a high PR provides a good benefit. If you create a Niche backlink will also get traffic.

Doing profile linking is ok, it's give you variety of links

When building links you should never rely on just one type. Variety is always a good policy as you should never put all your eggs in one basket.

Having said that profile links do work. That is why so many people do them which of course is why so many forum owners do not like them.

Yes. They still works fine for seo. You can get best results with randomizing and contextual linking.
