Has anybody noticed that Google's old keyword tool is no longer.. I mean, I know they changed the interface a little while ago but there used to be an option for "previous interface". I no longer can find this link. Is it just me or has anybody else noticed this?

If that is the case I really miss the old keyword tool..

Wow, I didn;t realise they changed it, thats what happens when you use MNF for soo long.

Anyway, it looks very good, typed in a few keywords and it is quite fast. Def better then the older version!

I know it sounds dumb, but I can't seem to figure out how to get similar keywords to show up with my search.. The old keyword tool, I would type a keyword phrase, and it would bring up a list of other relevant keyword phrases.

The new G. tool doesn't give the same global or local monthly search figures as the old one. I had results saved from the old one in ms excel and the figures are much lower now -- less than half in some cases. CPC numbers are about the same, though.

Does anybody know why? What tool can we trust? M. Samurai gives you different figures than G. I don't know what keyword search data to believe anymore.

The old tool according to google showed search count from Google as well as their Search Partners (AOL, Shopping.com, Ask.com, etc..). The new tool only shows up search volumes conducted on Google only.

At least some of the well known Keyword Research tools are still reporting "old", read = incorrect results, though I'm sure it's only a matter of short time till these get updated.

The discrepancy between the "old" and "new" results is significant and it is obviously a problem for all of us who based their keyword research on the inflated numbers, however, as many people are reporting the "new" much lower search numbers actually line-up with the data being reported by Google Analytics.

In other words, the new tool seems to be reporting numbers that are a lot closer to the "real world" results. And that has to be a good thing in the long run. The interface of the new Google Adwords Keyword Tool is still crap, in my opinion.

Thank you for the info, Vlad. Much appreciated.

I agree with you, the new G. Keyword Tool is bad but it's better than nothing -- I guess. Obviously, Google thinks that the new tool is more useful than the previous one, but "real world" results involved those from AOL, Shopping.com, Ask,com, etc. So, how is that more useful?

Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but G. Analytics results depend not only on the keyword itself but on your promotional efforts as well, so I think it is hard to conclude that Analytics confirms the validity of the much lower new Tool's search figures.

Vlad, what's your most trusted keyword tool and why?

I tried the very popular M. Samurai and did not get same order of page rank as shown in Google in some searches or the same CPC as in the G. Keyword Tool, or needless to say, the same search volumes, so I ended up getting a refund. Again, don't know what keyword tool to trust.

Meant to add this: I've been hearing from a lot of people that the older system used a lot of "guesstimating" to be faster and more efficient. The new tool does a better job of accurately reflecting real numbers.

Google analytics basically reports the visits to your site and how the people that visited you got there. In other words, it tells you how many people visited your site and how they found you. Armed with this information you are in a position to compare Google's data against your actual real world results.

Of course, and I think this is what you've alluded to, the data shown by Google Analytics is only useful if you are ranked highly (1st position ideally) for the keyword in question. Rememberiong too that even if you are placed #1, you will only get something like 45-50% of the available traffic.

I actually like and use MS, though it's not the easiest program to learn and use to its full capacity (I'm still learning ).

Lately though, I have really enjoyed using Micro Niche Finder just because it's so user friendly and easy to use and is especially good for finding good long tale keywords. That is until about a week ago when Google scrapped its "old" keyword tool, but MNF is still pulling its data from it, which means that its search counts at the moment are significantly different from the ones reported by Google Adwords Keyword Tool. I guess MNF should issue an update soon...

Other than that, I use SEO Quake (Firefox add-on) to check Strength Of Competition (SOC) of the first 10 results of Google search. Other tools I'd recommend are Traffic Travis and Andy Black's All In One SEO Toolbox. Both of these provide very visual SOC analysys of the first 10-20 results. Mind you, MS has this feature as well and its a good one.Hope this helps.
