Http://www.(domain).com vs http://(domain).com...is there a difference?

Hi all,

I have a micro niche website i'll just call (domain).org and I'm tracking its progress though Market Samurai. I'm wondering if it makes a difference if the website is listed as http://(domain).org or http://www.(domain)org. When I make links in articles, I always use the http://(domain).org), but when I open MS and do an SEO search, it shows the www.(domain).com ranking at #5 on Google.

I always thought they'd be the same, but what puzzles me is the number of backlinks. For the www one, it shows an IC of 7, a BLP of 11 and a BLD of 35, while the non-www one shows an IC of 22, a BLP of 33 and a BLD of 35. Is this going to make a difference in SEO? Is there a way of only having the non-www and if so, how do I go about changing it?

Thanks!

Doug

I need to know the answer to this, too. I never thought there would be a difference. Just last week, for the first time in several years, I found that a website that I use often (database)... it would not work properly without the www in front. I was shocked.

i would suggest you either use just www or without www. I would recommend without www .. might be a seo factor

The only thing I have noticed about http:// and http://www. is when I am forwarding my domain to blogger. I was confirming the domain name , i typed in http:// and google didn't recognize it.The error was it won't accept naked domain hosting.

I think it has nothing to do with google. It's your host's server issue that is
causing that. Do a check worldwide for your www. and without
it, and you will see some servers around the world will show
that you site is down. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Ask your host why the one without www works and the one with
www doesn't. If they say it shows for them all them time, it's
      a routing/server issue.

If you build links, use one version at all times.
