hi guys

I have some of .info domains and I heard that .info not good choice for seo and for search engines but now I have one of them ranked no.2 at page1 for the keyword I target and another at page 2 for another keyword
for google one of them is at the page one no.9 at google.com
and have double indexing at google uk and diffrent positions at the other google domains like .ca

the question now is the .info domains are really good for seo and it worth the effort ? , can I get higher ranking at google.com (I'm on page 1 no.9 now ) ??

waiting for your opinion

In my experience, there isn't that much of an SEO benefit to using .com, .net or .org domains over other extensions. I've had great results from .info domains, and I love that they're cheap enough that I can buy a bunch and see what sticks. Maybe it's worth it to have a .com if you're in a super-competitive niche, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I agree with Sarah on this one. I have not found much of an advantage paying more for a .com over .info at all. I see very similar results with both. So knowing this I primarily purchase .info now. Plus as Sarah says, you can buy many more and split test and such.

I would always say to ensure that you stick with .com's - in a competitive niche a .com will invariably out rank a .info and also a competitor with a .com will probably beat you in the rankings if he decides to promote hard.

If your site is valuable, it doesn't matter what extension you use because you will get backlinks to your site. However, the .com, .net, and .org will get a head start in ranking as I have tried a test in the past with 10 .com/.net/.org and same keyword domain .info ... the .info one would rank a few pages behind on Google.

In the end, it's all about providing quality content to users.

Nothing whatsoever is gained by doing a dot com. Nothing. No fantasy boost
      or whatever you call it.

That is the answer. Unfortunately, too many people do SEO by
feelings, "I just have a better feeling about ....." so it must be true.

The extension has nothing do with SEO. Nothing. Anyone who tells
you that has no clue and find someone else. An extension is not
SEO in the first place. (We are talking about .com, org, .info, .net, etc. here)

Anyone who says a dot info is useless or can't beat a dot com
needs to go back to SEO school.

If you don't think you can fall on your face with a dot com, man
are you in a fantasy world.

Do a search for pagerank checker or any variation and see what
site pops up. Then tell me in a competitive niche a dot info
can't beat a dot com. Google could care less.

This is just another myth in the magic trick bag of people who
have no clue on real SEO, so they have a bunch of tricks to
somehow get a site to rank high. And using a dot com is yet
another one of these. They refuse to want to do any hard work.

Can you explain to me why when I did a niche site using .info, it was ranked on page 3, and then when I did the same site with a little bit of different content, same title, same keyword domain, but a .net, and it was ranked #6 on page 1?

Nothing at all wrong with a .info if you can get a good one. I prefer .com or .net if I can get the same domain in one of those, but if you can't then go for the .info

Well, the algo is with Google. Anyone that's too sure about there "SEO Knowledge" is just arrogant.

I haven't seen many .info domains rank well in even moderately competitive niches. May be that's a clue, may be not.

Premise of people who oppose .info domains is that because they are ultra cheap, spammers make use of them whole heartedly.

That can be overcome by registering .info for multiple years. Since, spammers usually don't register a domain for more than a year.

Again that's just my opinion, Google has the Algo.

Without knowing anything about the domain in question and it's links, it's hard to say exactly what's going on with it. Most sites will fluctuate over time due to various reasons. It's quite rare for results to be entirely static.

For example, let's say you've been getting profile links or blog comment links for the site. Now, let's suppose one or more of them get devalued by Google because they were deleted, made nofollow or were abused by spammers. With a thin link profile like only 100 links this can cause a drop.

Other times, competitors can get better links than you or subtle shifts in the Google algorithm can cause a site to improve or decline.

The solution to these problems is to get more links, especially higher quality links from related sites and/or sites with reasonable authority even if they aren't related.

I have spoken to lot of people who think that having a .com at the end of your domain name would give you some sort of magical advantage over other domain extensions. As already said it does not matter which domain extension you have, to get it ranked well is all down to your SEO ability.

Our info site is on the fist page of Goolge with many main keyword terms and as an information site .info is just the perfect extension to have.

I too, rank well, with .infos. I do choose the .com if I can get the exact URL I want, but if not I will roll w/a .info and I'm doing just fine with them...and outranking some .coms so I disagree that the .com will easily outrank you (and I haven't done all that much to outrank them either, just a few special ingredients =)

I think a lot of people used to PERCEIVE .com as the almighty because it was the most commonly used extension, therefore gaining people's trust over other extensions, but these days people have gotten much more comfortable with the various extensions so I don't think it's as much of an issue...even though, like I said, I will often go w/the .com if I can.

My first 2 .infos were to test the success of the extension and they are still sitting at the top so they get my love =)

    good news

after google dance I outranked .net with the exact match keyword with a page on my domain not the domain itself :

I hope I can rank higher
now the next one is the .com with the exact keyword

.info has no different as .com, .net or .org in term of SEO. The only concern is .info might not easy to be memorized since in the mind of most the internet user are "default" .com

For a competitor niche a .com domain is the most beneficial, as no matter how hard you promote it, other websites will .com domain will rank higher.
