Anyone know if there is a Google Maps rank checker available?

Or what is your method of checking?

    Hi Lemints,

What do you mean exactly by Google Maps "rank checker"? Like a way to put in a business name and see if they come up in the 10 box, or what?
If thats the case, wouldn't you just go to google to type in the business name or the city/business type to see if they were listed?

Guess when you say a rank checker it makes me thing of a software or script of some sort that is going to run through multiple listings for you at once kinda thing.

    Make sense?

    Keep me posted,
    Jerold

    • Hey Mike, I'd be very interested too if you make a Google local rank checker that works well. I know lots of the top people in the space that would be interested too and know how to get the word out.

I'm doing Google Places optimization now and it takes a ton of time to do my benchmark reports.

No Jerold, it would be keyword based not name based.

So if your client is joesautomotive.com in Oceanside

You want to check before, during and after optimization how their local ranking improves for transmission service Oceanside, tune-up Oceanside, etc. If you are manually looking up lots of key phrases in the maps section it's a pain and takes for ever to scroll through trying to find the client's listing to see where they rank.

There are a couple free tools but they only check the 1st page 7 pack. If your client is already in the 7 pack - they don't NEED you. They are likely #44 on page 5. (That number stuck in my head because I just took a Chiropractor from #44 to #1 in less than a month. :p)

I don't have time to check this forum much any more, so send me a PM if you want to develop something!

      • Hang on, don't buy anything right now.
Google just changed the entire game!

The new major format change Google just announced just really makes everything so totally different that you should wait til the dust settles.

Official Google blog with screen shots:
Place Search: a faster, easier way to find local information

Place Search is rolling out now and will be available globally in more than 40 languages in the next few days. During the roll-out process you can use this special link to preview the new results. Our goal is to help you feel like a local everywhere you go!
No more 7 pack! Layout, ranking, everything is totally different. In fact local ranking is now largely controlled by your client's organic ranking.

the accuracy of this tool is not under 80 - 100%, so i think that is not a good software for using same. And another thing is from side there nothing like this tool

Hi, i saw this thread and thought you'd be interested to know that we've just built a Local Search Rank Checker tool that you might like to try out. It's a web based tool (no download) that records and tracks your rankings in local search engines (Google Places, Yahoo Local, Bing Local) as well in the organic, normal versions of these engines.

The tool is in Beta right now and we're looking for some people to test it. Take a look here - brightlocal.com/seo-tools/local-search-rank-checker/tool/ (sorry can't post live URL)

If you want to use it you need a password (to limit the number of Beta testers) so just complete the reg form or email me at myles[at]brightlocal[dot]com and i'll send you one.

      Thanks, Myles
