Which Directories Are Worth Paying For?

I'm actually considering paying to get reviews/listings in major directories. So far I have only submited my site to the Yahoo directory and am awaiting their review.

But which other directories would you recomend signing up for?

Thanks

I don't know a whole bunch but I hear best of the web is good. I wouldn't spend too much money submitting to directories though. I don't think they are worth the insane price...especially because it's not a lifetime listing.

Thanks, yeah I'm kind of looking for lifetime listing directories. BOTW has a reoccuring fee of $148 annually which seems expensive for one link. I know Yahoo charges $299/year but I hear that it is a 1 time fee for content sites.

Anyone know any 1 time fee directories that really help your rankings/PR?

DMOZ. Though it's not paid, it does help a lot if you can get your site listed.

Here's a list of web directories you can submit to - PR 6 and lower:

Add URL.nu : Add your URL to free SEO friendly directories

Most offer a free/paid option. If you opt for the free option with no reciprocal backlink, your success rate will be around 60% to 75% if you submit to one hundred directories. The links don't immediately appear but when they do, they will count.

The bottom line is this; they are backlinks and the only reason one out weighs the other is because of page rank. (i.e., a PR 4 web directory is better than a PR 2 web directory).

The exception to that is the Yahoo Directory; once you pay to play with the Y, they will put all of your URLs to that site in their SERPs. It's worth it if you have an Authority Site, Mega Site or a Micro Niche site that has huge upside potential. Aside from those qualifications, I personally wouldn't pay to have a site indexed by Y.

My barometer for paid inclusion into the Y is if the site is generating at least $500.00 p/m and has over 50 pages. If it meets that criteria, then I'll put it in. Just remember, you're paying for inclusion into their SERPs and not just a directory.

As far as paying for the other web directories, it's boils down to how much you value that link and for what time frame will you have it and the cost comparison factor of paying for links through other means.

      Hope that helps,
