Google Page Rank - Alexa Rank - Whats the diff?

In my efforts to check what ranking a site has, I have downloaded a toolbar for firefox that shows page rankings for various sites. It shows Google page rank stats and Alexa rank stats. Firstly I am confused as to what the difference is (if any). Does one use more criteria than the other to work out rank for sites (or pages)? And another curious thing is that one site may have a high Alexa ranking - but no Google ranking whatsoever - Like the Warrior Forum site for example. Is it the particular toolbar I have downloaded that is showing inaccurate stats...or can it be the case that a site or page may rank highly on Alexa, but really low on Google??
Thanks for any help with this...

Google PR = How popular your site is in the google index.
Alexa = How many people you get (you can cheat this easily)

Im not 100% certain on my "definitions" but i believe alexa is traffic rankings and the lower the better. For example google probably has an alexa ranking of 1, which means it is the most trafficked site, while warrior forum may be in the hundred thousands. Google page rank has nothing to do with traffic and is a ranking google gives website based on how important it thinks it is.

page rank and alexa rank are not related. You can have a high trafficked site (hence a low alexa rank) with low to no PR.

    Alexa, schmalexa!

I suppose some people care about the Alexa ranking of a site, but many savvy marketers don't. My understanding is that Alexa only collects data based on those people who are running the Alexa toolbar - I have never used that, and I'm sure other people could say the same thing. Also, if it can be easily manipulated, what good is it?

    Anyway, the numbers are unrelated.

In general you want a high Google page rank, which only goes to a maximum of 10. And a low number at Alexa which assigns the top site across the whole internet the number 1, and the next site down a 2, and so on down into the millions (?).

    All the best,
    Michael

Google pagerank is simply a popularity measurement tool. Designed to rank and place a website in the Google search index, the Google pagerank is given on a scale of 0-10 where a "0" is the lowest possible score for a website and a "10" is the highest score possible. A website's Alexa rating is much different than its Google page rank. Alexa ranks each website solely on traffic to that website. On a scale of 1 to infinity, Alexa rates each website in a descending order towards 1.

Alexa ranking is based on the traffic. But Google rank a site based on the importance of it. So their ranking procedure is completely different.

Alexa ranking is ranking for traffic but page rank is ranking for importance of the website judged by google. For more details, you can refer to below

mmmm Ok, thanks. I think I get the jist of it. So basically I guess from what the responses are it is the Google PR that perhaps matters more. In any case it seems that these rankings are not exactly the be all and end all of a website. Thanks.
