Do you still use Adwords?

I sold my product using Adwords. I used a long sales letter and strong emotional words. It was not IM related or get rich quick stuff, but it was an info product. After 2 years of promoting the same product, they slapped me. I did everything (change domain etc which they say to do to avoid google slap. I even used a certified adwords consultant.), but did not work. So I gave up, and stopped using Adowords. So I learned SEO and after the hard work the traffic came back.

Now, I'm almost ready for my new product launch. I will do SEO, but I need to get traffic to test in the beginning. So, I asked on the copywriting forum if I should make my copy (make less long, less emotional words etc) and sales page (more links, content etc) for Google(Adwords) to be OK with, even it probably will reduce the conversion rate. I got several answers, which are mostly, no. I was told to make a copy to sell, and don't let the ad source to decide your copy. Instead, forget about adwords and use other paid traffic sources. But I don't hear much about using other ad sources than Adwords...

So, I am wondering what other people are doing. Do you still use Adwords to get traffic? Trying to find the way to get good quality score and not to get slapped and everything? Or do you use Adwords alternatives(other ppc companies?)? Other ad sources?

Or do you just do "physical" work (article writing, SEO, blogging etc) to promte your product(s)?

Thanks for your time and input(s).

    I do both.

But to your point about getting slapped....do you JUST have a salesletter on these domains? Because having other content helps to get a better quality score.

I love using their content network. Not only is it cheaper, but it's more lenient. And they have it set up so that you can control which sites you want your ad to show on. If you can't tweak your campaigns on the content network into the positive, then chances are you need to move on to the next project.

What do you mean 'slap?' Why does Google slap an adwords account?

There are approx 900 billion ways why and how Google could slap your account or quality score.

Its not as simple as just picking the first best keyword and having a random landing page. Google will find many ways so you have to pay more for your ad. Starts with your ad wording relevancy, keywords, keyword match types, CTR, bid costs, landing page quality, account history and so forth. I am afraid the subject is very complex.

When I started last year, I took a leap of faith into Google Adwords, following the promises of internet marketing products. I was suspended for no apparent reason.

Since then, I haven't tried Google Adwords. But I'm still getting free, quality traffic from Google - I snatch the Top 1 spot for my keyword. I bet it's better than Adwords too. Free and targeted.

      Hi Shaun,
That's how I recovered too. But I want to do a initial test - which keyword would convert well etc. Using Adwords makes sense for that doesn't it?

      - By the way -
I put this thread on the main forum and it was moved to this forum. But I am not asking a specific question about PPC or Adwords. Rather, I'm asking if they still use Adwords or Adwords is useful as one of many marketing methods for info selling products and if not what they use as alternatives.

The PPC/SEO forum is, in my understanding, more for specific questions regarding ppc/SEO. So I still think the main market forum is suitable for my question. Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong... I am not sure what to do now once it is moved though...

Many many more people click on organic results than adwords/sponsored ads anyway. You're ahead of the game now...Plus, you don't have to pay google now ^_^

I tried adwords for about a week. suffice it to say...it wasn't worth it at all. Very bad CTR. I've decided to stick with SEO which never used to let me down in the old days.

Adwords is almost impossible for the typical "clickbank affiliate".The reason is low payouts of <$30 (for most clickbank products), HIGH cost per click/bids, and conversion rates 1:80 or worse.

    SEO > Adwords, big time.

I paused my ads for over a year and did not pay a penny to Google for ads...and my sales are better then ever.

Now i just found out they suspended my account. Well..i guess Google doesnt like people who can do the math...thats why they give "free" coupons to the newbies.

      Hi GeorgR,
That's exactly what happened to me, and how I recovered from not using Google. Doing SEO! It was rather easy for me to decide the keyword(s) for that because I already knew which keywords they bought my product most, because of Adwords.

For my new product, I have to decide the keywords first if I do SEO. At this point, I want to do Split testing etc. I need a good number of traffic.
Also, English is not my frist language so to make good content sites for SEO, or whatever it takes to make sites for Google(search) to like, it is a bit of work for me.(My past products were not in English)

Do you use/recommend any traffic sources for this purpose?

      Anyone?

      Thanks

Don't EVER even consider keyword bidding on search network in the weight loss niche. The bids are so expensive since so many newbs are doing it and competing against each other. Every week another fool who wants to "try" it.

This does not only apply to weight loss, but also common CPA/affiliate niches like colon cleanse, **** etc.etc. If you examine the bids you will realize they are in NO relationship to the potential income. In other words: Every adwords newbie who is bidding $1 or more on "weight loss" to sell some $30 "truthaboutabs" product (maybe after 100 clicks) is the reason that Adwords in MANY niches is so "out of whack".

The super affiliates are using media buys and MAYBE PPV (pay per view, but only after a LOT of split testing!!) where they pay a penny per click/visitor. The adwords newbies are bidding $1 on "colon cleanse"....or "weight loss"....until in a week or so they realize they lost a lot of money, they end their campaigns and then the next fool is coming along and does the same thing again.

And it's just getting sillier and sillier with bids in such niches.
