Im really frustrated with this SEO case, i have optimizing a website have done onpage optimization and offpage, but the number 1 spot is taken for a site that has 5 backlinks , 2 of them PR1 ,others PR0 and none of them are optimized for the keyword, on the other hand i have many backlinks with high pr with the proper anchor text. My competitor is on place 1 an i on place 12.

And the search resutls inlcude google maps i dont know if this affects in something the rankings....im not intrested on maps, but i wish to understand why is happening this....

thanks

How did you determine it only has 5 backlinks? Hope you did not use the Google link: operator.

Can you tell us the URL's (or PM me) - I always up for a bit of analysis.

What is the age difference for the 2 pages?
And how long have the links pointing to those pages existed?

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

I agree with dvdual ..I think the problem is your site's age..Your competitor may be older then yours..It does matter..Because, in my opinion, It really affect on SEO...Keep do link building ..Good luck..

PR does not matter in Ranking
So keep building quality links to your site.

I agree that this could be the main difference, but i have outranked sites for other terms with same age difference, so i dificult to believe that this is one main factor in this case

Yeah, I'm going to agree that a lot of it has to do with the age of the domain. If your site is new and that site has been around for years, Google still considers them more authoritative regardless of the number of back links (within reason). I've also read that Google gives preference to sites based on existing traffic volume.

Yes age could be, but the difference is huge between 1st place and 12th place, to be just only domain age...about the traffic volume, can't say that is real, have any prove of this?

Age seems to be quite key sometimes. I manage a website for a customer that is in direct competition with one other site. "My" website is updated regularly, the other is not, we have more and more relevant content and so far as we can tell more and better backlinks. But we cannot take the top spot in Google. We are at #2, the competitor is at #1. Their domain name has a slightly better suffix than ours but is otherwise identical except that their domain name was registered some 12 years ago and ours was registered only 10 years ago.

Seems to be a similar case and i can undestand but the some of difference i have between pages in the first page is the same or 2 years...i am talking about 10 spots of difference, not competing with just one site which is much older than mine.

Im still thinking that the presence of google maps is affecting in some way the ranking of the serps for my keyword.

Is your site new? The other site established? That may be the root of the problem. Increase backlinks, and watch the "bounce rate". I suspect that is playing a bigger role in ranking than it did previously.

has 3 years, the other has 5, i will increase backlinks but i think that is not the issue....

I don't normally have much of a problem overtaking older domains.

How long have you been working this? Where did the site start at (ie, have you got it to move at all?)?

I've had sites go from page 18, to page 8, to page 3, to the bottom of page 1 over the course of a few months after doing SEO work on it.. then they start to work their way up page 1. Now, keep this in mind - there was no more seo work or backlinking done when the site was on page 18, and when it hit the top of page 1. The only difference was time.

If you're on page seo is actually solid, based on the lack of backlinks the competition has - I say give it a bit more time.

I think it may be possible that that site is being linked to a few high PR sites but you are unable to tell this just by checking most of the backlink tools you are using. As far as I know there isn't a tool that can show all your backlinks.

    1. Other Site is old
    2. Now yahoo explorer and backlink watch are also not giving the exact or good number of backlinks and specially for those websites whic are at top spot of google.
    3. You may need to do some work on onsite factors too.
