Noob suggestion for Adwords - took me too long to learn...

Well, just wanted to post about my stupid mistake with Adwords and what I've learned in hopes of helping some of the other noobs that frequent WF. I would assume that this isn't new to anyone involved in IM.

I have a small adwords campaign to draw some traffic to my site. At the suggestion of Adwords, I set my ppc max bid to $.30. Everything was fine, I brought in some traffic every day, and my (Adsense) site is making a little more than I'm spending - and my organic traffic is growing in the interim. Good.

But I'm constantly getting messages from Adwords telling me I'm limited by my budget. Likewise, my CTR on Adwords is around 6-8% so I'm bringing in a lot of people quickly when the ad runs and I max out at my budget in less than an hour. So the other day I decided to experiment a little, and I reduced my max ppc to $.16 cents.

Long story short, I'm getting almost twice as much traffic and making twice as much off my site as I was before. And I'm not paying Adwords anything more than I was. And I'm still getting all my users within an hour or so.

Moral of the story: If you're new to Adwords and seeing a lot of traffic, don't just take the 'recommended' max cpc bid or you could lose out on a lot of visitors and traffic.

And my question: Should I go for it and bump my budget for Adwords way up?

By all means! You mean budget for day - correct? I would bump it up by 50% and see what you get.

I wish you luck - adwords is very tricky for me - but I'll be doing some more for some clients of mine. At least it's their money I'm playing with - not mine.

Is it okay to get paid traffic to an adsense site?

Absolutely. Google doesn't really advertise that they want you to do this, but it's a win-win for them. And they do have a case study on the Adwords site about someone doing exactly this.

It's legit and beneficial for the big G. Plus the site I'm running Adsense on isn't just a landing page trying to rope people in, it's a complete site with dynamic content, several updates every day, user interaction, etc...

I believe it's called adsense arbitrage and I'm not sure how long it's going to last for you.

Plenty of other people have bitten the bullet doing that. Be careful!

Really? It seems so odd that Google would promote this if it somehow violates their TOS. See https://www.google.com/adsense/stati...calCoding.html for more information.

Also, where would you draw the line? There are many (probably hundreds of thousands) of other sites that use Adwords to bring in traffic and also run Adsense on their site. This includes many Fortune 500 companies, etc. I've never heard anything about this being a problem?

If your campaign is profitable, absolutely raise your budget.

If you were at a cash machine that gave you a dollar every time you put $0.50 in, how many times would you put $0.50 in? If it were me, as many as I could until it stopped giving me a dollar back.

It's all about ROI. If you are putting in $1 now and getting $3 back, then absolutely increase your budget ie put in $3 and get $9.

    ROI ROI ROI
