Page 1 on yahoo (spot 3) but page 7 google?

So to my surprise one of my older sites has made it to page one position number 3. But in google it is only n page 7.

So obviously I have done something right for yahoo, but not for google. what should I do now to get better google rankings?

I would love to know the same thing. I have around 50 websites in the top 10 on yahoo, bing, and they are on page 7-15 in google.

I have heard that both yahoo and bing place extra emphasis on backlinks as opposed to Google.

I'm guessing that all SE value backlinks but Google has extra parameters that can make a site with Google authority and fewer backlinks outrank a page that has less authority but more backlinks

Ouch...you heard wrong! Google may however be better at sorting the good links from the spam links.

I have a no2 position *behind wiki) on Bing and Yahoo, and until
about 3 weeks ago I was on page 9 of Google, insane.

Then all of a sudden I popped into the bottom half of page 2 on
    Google.

I'm letting it sit for a week or so more before I attempt any
    back linking.

    Google's a strange master.

I had seen this with a site also - and the variation was the site that didn't have the good google ranking had no "social backlinks". Sure enough - getting it onto digg and other sites (some were follow others were no-follow links) seemed to do the trick.

This is only one example - and I have no other examples to back it up.

But it seems plausible to me - Google has the most indicators evaluated for their SERP ranking. I'm sure they've already got social indicators in the SERP equation - it wouldn't surprise me at all if Bing/Yahoo haven't caught up in this area.
