Blog Comment Links Discarded By Google

Hey guys,

I have acquired 30 links to 2 of my websites (15 each) by commenting on relevant blogs. 2 weeks after my incoming links campaign ended, I checked google webmaster tools and I found out that only 3 out of the 30 links are in there. Also according to siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com I have only 7 links pointing to my 2 websites. All the blogs I have posted my comments on have the dofollow plugin enabled (I even checked the page source to make sure.).

Is there any reasons why google (and yahoo for that matter) discredited 80% of my incoming links?

Thanks,
Nick

Although webmaster tools shows a lot more backlinks to your site than the "link:yourdomain.com" search parameter, I'm not sure it displays all of them, still.

I know for sure that Yahoo doesn't, also.

So it could simply be that they've chosen not to display those backlinks to you (but might've stilled counted them), or may be that the backlinks were removed due to the comments being deleted, or what not.

It could be a multitude of reasons. Don't sweat it, just keep building good quality links whenever you get the chance.

The time you spent checking could have been time spent building more links or writing more content.

@drzun A few links of mine has disappeared from webmaster tools as well. Mostly links from a post I put up on a Facebook fan page linking to a blog. Thought maybe the links from there expired or got cut off or something? weird.

Facebook is nofollow, so they useless link anyway!

Dont discredit nofollow links. If your site is showing 500 backlinks that are all do-follow, it is going to appear spammy. You want to give a natural presence by mixing it up and making sure you do allocate some nofollow links.

You should also get a tool for checking your backlinks rather than relying on google webmaster tools or search operators like "link:site.com". This will give you a broad overview of all your links over multiple search engines.

If your links all haven't dripped in right away - don't panic, the search engine spider has probably yet to re-spider the page to find your link. You can ping these pages to have the spiders try and pick up on them.

Ya know, I have been taking a lot of flack from wannabes lately.

But it seems there is an echo in here today. My best lines are being stolen!

        Where have you guys been??

The only thing I can add to this, is blog commenting is probably not
where you should spend your time backlinking anyway.

And as to the title of your thread, yes, I do believe google is going
to devalue blog commenting due to fools commenting like maniacs,
and the no follow tag close to being a failure.

...of course people have been blog comment spamming for ages, and we all know how well certain sites rank for pharma keywords based almost entirely on blog comment spam Of course, google has and will continue to change its algo and we'll all continue to evolve as things go along. That being said, even with the full roll out of Caffeine (I refuse to spell it with that stupid rename), all of my sites, which generally speaking are keyword-laden domain names with lots and lots of profile backlinks and blog comments have never ranked better :-)

True, facebook are no follows. But if done right from a credible page you have set up for fans.. anything you post on their gets indexed pretty quick and I'm sure that link carries some sort of value, at least more than a spammy blog link.

So don't worry about backlinks when you check your backlinks, just see the result in google with SERP. If your SERP increases in google, you can be sure that your backlinks get indexed by google even though you can't see the backlinks.

    (1) 2 weeks isn't enough time to see all links show up in backlink searches

    (2) checking what backlinks google says you have (whether in google webmaster tools or through the "links:" search), is basically pointless. why on earth would they tell you how many backlinks they actually have for you? You think they want to contribute to the backlinks arm race. As far as I'm concerned, only worry about whether the page is indexed, and whether Google has crawled it. If the page is indexed, and google has crawled the page since you put up your comments, then google is aware of the link, period.

    (2) looking for links in yahoo site explorer is better than using google for looking for links, but it is no where near good enough, IMHO. You need something like SEO Spyglass to give you a more accurate idea of the backlinks.

    (4) Refer back to #1. Be patient.
