Of the index that is... Not something else you dirty minded people!!

I have been noticing my blog posts have been in the index then out, then in, then out and so on... With no real pattern to the madness.

I have noticed my sites, established and new sites... Dont have this behaviour..

Anyone experience this type of thing? I am thinking it is a Caffeine thing and temporary... But it is very strange indeed!

    Hi Adam,

That sounds a lot like QDF (Query Deserves Freshness). This freshness factor will boost your SERP ranking temporarily when you make a new post, but wears off as your post ages. The bottom line is that blogs don't tend to hold rankings due to the content constantly changing, while pages that stand the test of time will gradually increase their TrustRank and hold positions with a little more stability.

The Caffeine update allows Google to update their index more quickly so you may see these same fluctuations occurring more frequently due to this faster indexing.

I think he was talking about being in the index and out though. The QDF definitely works for rankings but not for stuff being indexed and then not indexed.

But to answer the OP's question I have been noticing that a lot lately. One day, I've got 75 indexed pages for one of my sites then the next day back down to 25.

It's either a result of Caffeine or just different data centers keeping different information for this site. Because it's new different data centers have different things in the index. I'm not really sure why it has been happening but if I worry about it I won't be nearly as productive so I just say f*** it.

Get more pages out there and more backlinks as well.

    Thanks dburk.

Thanks Jacob, is comforting to know other people are experiencing the same type of thing.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting traffic from new pages I'm writing on my smaller sites. Trust must be an issue as new hubpages go into Google in a matter of hours!
