Google adwords - is it worth it?

Hi, I am pretty new here and doing a lot of reading and hopefully learning a lot. I have google adwords set up for my website and I do see my link come up on the right side of the google page, sometimes #1, but generally in the top 6. I am not sure if it's worth having google adwords. I am not convinced the money spent is really getting me anywhere. I check my account and it gets me some hits each day, but not a lot. What do you more experienced people think about google adwords? My page is SEO'd and comes up pretty good with various search engines. I use the WordPress statpress to see what search terms people use and with which search engine.

Thanks for any advice.

Adwords is an incredibly powerful method of getting traffic, but with that being said, it takes a lot of testing to find keywords that can both generate you a decent amount of hits, but also convert for you.

Are you sending visitors to your sites homepage? My campaigns always perform much better when I send the user to a sales page.

The link takes people to my homepage. I have chosen a lot of good descriptive terms, used the terms adwords selected as well, and terms that I found people used, that I gleaned from the StatPress, so I think I've got that covered pretty well. Of course there can be other terms I havent found or thought of yet.

Are you saying you send your visitors right to your order page?

    only you can answer this.
what's your conversion rate? what's your visitor value? These are all questions that you must know and understand in order to use ppc. If you know that for every 100 visitors to your site you make $100, then as long as you are paying less then $1 per click you should see a positive ROI with adwords (you will need to track this in order to make sure, though).

Most people usually use adwords to get sales. So the most value in adwords is getting conversions on your campaigns.

For example if you spend 50 dollars a day on adwords but make 100 dollars then you can see that the adwords made you 50 dollars.

It's great - just don't put all your eggs all in one basket. I would try affiliate marketing as well.

I've never cracked AdWords conversion. But I love it for branding, even if you don't get direct sales.

Example - in one niche I'm in I have effectively set the name of the software tool you need to carry out a task. Before I came along nobody knew what to call these widgets, now all my competitors are rebranding their tools to have similar names to mine .
